308 load data needed

Starting to reload for a friend. My first time reloading this caliber. He has a Remington 700 ADL in 308 22” barrel, 1-10 twist. Looking for a load that could be used on anything from Fox (not worried about fur friendly) up to black bear. I have more then enough different types of bullets to try (mostly sierras and Speer but also some Hornadys) since my grandfather loaded 300 savage and 308 in the past...(his loads were 3” at best though lol) I think I’ll start with150gr with either H4895 or Varget just because they are powders I have on hand but I’m willing to go buy others if necessary.

Any information would be helpful!
Thanks

In .308 Win I have found IMR 4895 and IMR 4064 to be great powders.

I'd look try bullets such as the Nosler 150gr BT and Hornady 168 A-Max for starters. For fox or coyote, the Hornady 110gr V-Max (if available) and/or the Nosler 125gr BT would be great.

I'm a big fan of the .308 Win despite it's losing flare and favor now days.

4895 is an excellent powder for 308/30-06 and the 125 gr. NBT is a great bullet in both calibers (1:10 twist)for coyotes if pelts are not to be saved. I think you have your work cut out finding a fur friendly ,308 bullet for a fox from what I've read here (no fox down here). I'm using H4895 and data a bit different between that and IMR. RL15 also does well in my 308, which likes mild loads and is downright finnicky about the (few) bullets it likes. Here's a couple of different loads and bullets that have worked in it. All groups are 5 shot:

Same 125 NBT in my M1 (30-06 1:10 twist) shot bottom group .69" moved scope and shot center group measuring .79".

RL 15 worked well w/150 gr. NAB in the .308.

As usual, start low and work up.

Thanks guys! I have some Hornady brass ready with CCI LR benchrest primers. Just going to start loading tomorrow or the next day with the H4895. I believe I’m going to start out using 150gr Sierra Gamekings. Hopefully we can get out to the range soon but may not be till after the new year!

Always looking for more info! Does anyone have any experience with Speer bullets in this caliber? I have only used them in a 6mm.

I've shot the 130 HP's on metal targets for IHMSA in my XP. They would tear a dog up. I used anywhere from 38 to 41 grains of IMR 3031.

Ackleyman spoke very highly of the 130 gr. Speer HP for coyotes but try as I might, that finnicky 308 of mine would not shoot them to my satisfaction. As I mentioned, there were a lot more bullets it didn't like than those it did, though.

I don't save S.TX fur, so that's not an issue for me; not sure if Ackleyman did or not; maybe he'll weigh in.
