Im in the market for an ar type .308 caliber rifle. So far the three I have really looked at is the aramalite, rra, and the dpms.

Im looking for one with a flat top, 20in bull barrel, free floated, and 1500.00 or under. I also am interested in the availability of different caliber uppers.

For this price range what one would you choose and why?

What brand has the most readily available upper receivers assemblies to change out and what brand is the cheapest or most expensive for their upper assemblies?

what brand is the most reliable and least reliable out of the three i listed?

any information appreciated guys. I just want to make a good purchase.

Rock River LAR-8 in 20 inch, They are extremly accurate and well made, The last choice would be DPMS they are put together with parts from too many different suppliers in my eyes. My second choice would be a toss up with Armalite or Stag Arms. Good luck on your choice,(you asked for my $.02)

On the AR10 lowers there are a lot of uppers in many calibers for them:

338 federal 243 Win, 260Rem, 7mm-08, 284Win, 308Win "Match", 35Rem, 300Savage, 257Roberts, 358Win, 300SAUM, 325WSM, 6.5 Creedmore, & more!

Here is a .308 upper and a deal at $600, buy a lower for about $500-600 and be under $1500.

thanks for the info. I understand the availability of uppers for the the AR(armalite) and the dpms I also understand because of the way they are built that you cant use a dpms on top of a armalite lower. How about for the RRA's? can you use the armalite or the dpms upper on the rra lower? according to their website (rra) you can only use their uppers. would the dpms upper for sale work on the RRA lower?

^ I would also suggest you go with that upper!!

Im sure someone will come along who knows more than I do but I believe you can use the DPMS upper on an RRA lower. As far as I know the Armalite is the only one that is completely exclusive when it comes to parts...

thank you blopez. can anyone else back this info up that its possible to use dpms uppers or similar uppers on RRA lowers?

Sickest, People can knock DPMS all they want, but this is one that I won at the DPMS 3-gun in 2005 and while it had a 24" free floated and fluted barrel, it was a real shooter...

This is a 5 shot 100 yard target after the 'barrel break in', using Federal Gold Match ammo..The little 'flier' (upper left in the group) was my fault, rather than the rifles...

Where are you guys finding lowers? Say, if you wanted to build one, and not buy an upper, where are you getting the lowers and upper receivers (stripped)??

I'd like to get a Mega MA-Ten, but don't have the funds at this point for it yet.

Remington also markets an R-25 in 308, 7-08 and 243. I have one in 308 and it shoots groups like Old Turtle posted. The Remingtons come camoed with 20" light contour barrel. The trigger is not the best so I replaced mine with a Bushmaster 2 stage adjustable national match trigger which is leaps and bounds above RR match trigger for about the same price.

Most of our vendors here have stripped AR10 lowers for sale on their sites.
Otherwise you can get them from any AR dealer online, they run at least $300 + for the lowers.
Same with the upper parts, complete or stripped, even midwayusa has them.

Thanks 5spd... I was wanting a vendor/sponsor of PM to have some.

I'd like to get a billet lower/upper combo to match my current billet collection, however, the manuf. of the billet I have doesn't plan on producing a .308 yet until late next year.

Hope they're not too far behind the curve.
