Which dies do you perfer to use when reloading hard cast and jacketed bullets for the .357 magnum ?

Can you get a good roll crimp in a seating die or do I need a seperate roll crimp die ?

just as a personal preference, i prefer to crimp as a separate step from seating.

i feel that it allows for a finer control on both steps vs trying to do both at the same time.

admittedly since i'm loading on a progressive, thats simpler than doing so on a single stage.

I use Redding and RCBS most nowadays. I also prefer to crimp in a separate step. Roll crimp for the straight case .357 Magnum.

I too use a separate die for a roll crimp on heavy loads. I do not roll crimp a 125g g jacketed bullet with 18g of H110 or 17.8g of 4227

Bullet crimps are a strange and unique thing to deal with, over do it and pressures spike sky high. Under to it, and bullet moves out toward the end of the cylinder. Accuracy can really find a sweet spot on a crimp. I usually have a separate crimp die for various bullet weights, they are a pain to set. I just look for non carbide die sets on ebay and get the whole die set cheap.

I use Lee crimp dies on all my straight wall cases, ( 38, 357mag, 45acp, 44 mag, 460mag, 444marlin, 45-70) and I crimp my 223 for my AR's.
