#4 Reticle?

I found a good deal on a Burris FF 30 with the 3P#4 reticle. Does anyone have any pros/cons in using this reticle? I don't have any shops nearby where I can actually look through a scope with one.

Thanks for any input.

The #4 styled reticles are great for general purpose hunting. Bold outer 'T' posts with thinner inners makes for an uncluttered view. And the fact that Burris' 3P#4 offers an illuminated center aiming dot makes it all the more appealing. Prolly not ideal for bughole paper punching or varmint shooting, but for low light big game & predator hunting, I'd think you'd be pleased with it...

Thanks for the info, ked. I went ahead and ordered the scope yesterday. It doesn't have the illuminated reticle.

On topic, the German #4 is a super hunting reticle. I really have become a fan of this style reticle over the years. It is easy to pick up in low light, fast on moving game, and still offers enough precision for decent accuracy. Get it and use it for a bit and I'll bet you'll like it a lot in the field on game.

Thanks, GC. I was worried about the "Ziggy with his nose hanging over the fence" effect when looking at close-up pics of this pattern. It seems to look like it would work really well for quick vertical target acquisition, but I wasn't sure about sighting horizontal on a running shot.

RB, you'll like it. I've also got a few straight hunting scopes with the #4 reticle & like them very much for quick point & shoot simplicity...

good luck!
