Hey guys I'm new to the forum, long time watcher, new poster.
I have pulled a lot of great info off of this board over the years, but there's one thing I can't seem to find.
I'm going to load some 40gr v-max for hide saving coyotes and for squirrels.
Looking for a starting point, can't seem to find much even in Hornady's 9th addition loading book.
Powders I have on hand are VV N-135, Norma 200,201,202,203B
Primers will be CCI 5.56 primers
Both my guns are 5.56 1:8 twist, my MVP is 24" and my AR is 18"
If anyone has a load they really like with the 40gr v-max, I'd be into that too, I can get other powders.

Benchmark is excellent with the 40's, love the stuff. I get 3,320fps from a 16" pipe with it and excellent accuracy. IMR8208XBR is another good powder.

Thanks guys, sounds like benchmark is the ticket. I've looked a little online, seems nobody has it right now. Have to see if I can find some.

If I remember correctly, I started at 25 grains of H4895 with the 40 gr. VMax. with excellent results. (verify all data with a reputable manual).

I ran out of 40 gr. VMax and also H4895. Now I am loading the 50 gr. Vmax with 26 gr. Win 748. Great load also in my 1-9 Savage. The Win. 748 meters like water.

I have the same rifle and I use CFE 223..I worked up the loads to 28.5 grains using Remington small rifle magnum primers. I am consistently getting 1/2 inch or better groups at 100 yards. I have shot two coyotes in the last week both behind the shoulders 1 at 325 yards and the other at 60 yards, both had small entrance and no exit.

27 grains of H335 rem 7 1/2 primers and 40gr Noslers and I can shoot thumb tacks at 100yards out of my Rem700 223.
