.410 Slugs

I got some reloading info from a guy that I'm using with my Saiga .410. But I've encountered a problem. This gun has a smaller bore than your average 410 with cylinder choke. American = .410 and European = .406. Would it hurt me to shoot .410 lead bullets (no jackets, soft lead) out of this?

I wouldn't think it would be a huge issue because the lead would form to the barrels diameter.

What I would do is take a .410 slug and cut it open and take the slug and see how tight it is in the barrel. If I could push it through with a cleaning rod, I would feel safe to fire one. If I had to pound it through with a wood dowel rod and a hammer, I'd say that's too tight.

But hey that's me. I try to figure stuff out on my own, sometimes it works out and sometimes.....

Whatever you do, proceed with caution. I bet by tomorrow morning someone who has tried it will chime in.

As suggested I would slide a bullet through the bore & see how it fits, may slide right through.

I'd want to compare weights of the intended slug with weights of a slug used with reputable data. Shotgun pressures seem low compared to centerfire, but I wouldn't want to create an over-pressure load.

Somewhere in here one has to ask what is the intended use? Whatever you end up with surely won't be a very accurate round. It may have some use at very close range.

How can you say they wont be accurate? Ive got the from a guy that uses them himself. Cloverleafs at 25 yards in his gun.

Barnyard thinking, from .410 to .406 is only .004 which is not very much. Think I'd load one up. close my eyes, pull the trigger and see what happens. I've done dumber stuff.

My initial thoughts exactly! Possible rig it so I can be a few feet back with a string. I ran one slug through the barrel before loading it, so it now measures .406. I'm gonna try that one first, then if I'm feeling confident I will run the .410 out of it. With modern spring steel it shouldn't be a big deal. Plus the gun is Russian, so breaking it is near impossible.

Most .410 shotguns have a full choke which i'm about 99% sure is tighter than .406 and slugs shoot fine out of those. You could ask the manufacture as well just to double check
