45 acp hunting round

Hard cast buffalo bore comes to mind for a factory load.

Anything that will stay together while penetrating should be fine.

+P don't hurt.

Double Tap is now making a hardcast 45ACP hunting load that looks interesting. Large meplat and pretty sharp shoulders, should do the trick.

i was staying at a friends house last winter and shot 3 coyotes off the bait one night. the next morning i went out to retrieve them with only my 1991A1 compact 45. two were dead on the spot, but the 3rd i had to track. i followed the blood trail down across the road and up to the creek. we had a ton of snow last year so the banks to the creek were about 5 feet high and nearly vertical. the coyote had gotten in the creek but could not get out. i followed the creek down about 100 yards and there he was, still standing in the water. i drew my 45 and shot, nothing, shot again, nothing. i could see the bullets hitting the water so i though that i must be shooting low, so i aimed higher and clearly saw that i shot over his back. i put the sights back on him and continued shooting. after 5 shots he finally fell over. when i skinned him, i found a line of bullet holes in the chest, i had shot him 4 times. all went clean through, hornady 230gr xtp's.

that has made me rethink my carry gun and loads!

What a surprise, I hear that even a near miss with a 45 will knock it's target. Seriously now, do you reload? That may get you what you want, otherwise I would just take brained's suggestion.

If your pistol is +P rated look at Double Tap 450 SMC. It's pretty impressive, the 255 hard cast might be what your after

Now you're talking! A 250 grain bullet at over 1,000 is a whole lot more ouch than the standard .45 ACP or even the +P loads.

Just dont forget to change that recoil spring!

That is a lightly constructed lightweight bullet (185 gr.) at a fairly sedate velocity (1,000 fps). Doesn't figure to be deep penetrating bone buster on a sizable hog. I would definitely look at a heavy hard cast +P load.

Shooting a hog is quite a bit different than shooting a man or a coyote. For hog hunting, use hard cast or solid copper round, +P, like Barnes TAC-XPD .45 ACP +P
