For 230 gr HP and ball, what powder do most of you like for the best accuracy and clean shooting?Unique does good but I would like to find something that meters good and is cleaner.

I believe I'm using longshot for my .460 rowland, basically 45acp with a little extra oomph. Both ball and xtp.

Ramshot Silhouette. Meters like water through my Dillon, and very clean burning. Great accuracy and velocity to boot!

Thanks for the replies.I left out the real reason for asking the question though.I guess that happens with a seasoned fellow sometimes.
The question was supposed to be,what do you like for a 3 inch 1911.

For self defense - Very light hollow points, and HP-38 or W-231

For plinkin', 185's

But for any weight bullet, my go to powder for the 45 ACP is HP-38, or W-231.

+1 231 meters like water!

I shoot a lot of Blue Dot, and Power Pistol in my 45's. Meters well and is clean enough. Another powder that I use from time to time is Tite Group.

Happy shooting.

I have shot several powders with good success, but I will be using HP 38 until I use up the 8# box I bought at a gun show the spring before Obummer was elected. It is a bit sooty, but accuracy is great. I got the box for $50, so I am not going to complain about soot.

I like U-Clays and of course HP- 38/W231. If in a pinch, Bullseye is ok.

Never found a powder bullet combo yet that I didnt want to clean my gun after shooting. Therefore i quit chasing that dream.

I use Titegroup in both .45 and .40, and 38 for that matter. Cheapest and takes the least per load. seems position insensitive even in the longer 38. Really allows to stretch the reloading buck.

Much like Bullseye, the only concern I have with these low volume powders is the likelihood of double charging a case compared to some other popular powders which would spill over the case mouth on a double charge.

If a guy gets out of rhythm on a progressive press, a double charge is a lot easier to miss with the low volume powders like Bullseye. Otherwise they work fine, although I think the recoil impulse is sharper with Bullseye than many other powders.

I shot both of these powders for many years. A friend introduced me to AA#5 for bullet weights from 185-230g with #5. #5 burns so clean that I could hardly believe it, neither will you!

Can you imagine shooting a 1911 in 45 ACP for 750 rounds and never cleaning it with bullseye or 231?

I think I have some #5.You make me want to try it for sure.I need to look at a burn rate chart. The faster powder would be best in a 3 inch barrel right?Or would there be much difference?
