45 Long Colt Help

Just got a Uberti 1873 Cattleman in 45 LC. Never shot a 45LC. Obviously never loaded for one.
I am not a big fan of noise and recoil. Thinking of loading down to 185gr. XTP, however I have heard that there may be slight bore dimension variations between a 45 ACP and a 45 LC, especially if the 45 LC is in a late model SAA.

I will not be shooting Cowboy Action so I do not have to worry about those specs. No speed steel of other competitions. I will not be hunting with the firearm either. Mostly looking for a plinker.

I have also heard that the replicas like the Uberti are not designed for +P ammo. What say you?

Do I need to stick with non-jacketed lead?

What do you have in a light low recoil load?

What outside bullet dimension am I looking for?

I shoot a lot of trap so I have plenty of Clays, Universal, Blue Dot, Herco, Unique, Red Dot, 700X etc. Would prefer to stay with these powders.

The best I can remember when I was CAS shooting I used 6 or 7 gr of Unique and 200gr lead round nose bullets .452 dia. very controllable recoil.

modern production guns are suppose to be .452 however older 45 colts were .454. i run 250gr rnfp in all my 45 colts, downloads for sure. i cant find the actual data but i found the .45 schofield load for my spencer and they are about 5 gr. of unique.

nothing like a big bullet going slow. i think the cattleman is a true reproduction and should use loads consistent with originals.

the sierra manuals have load listed for original guns if i remember right.

my favorite grouse gun is a .45 colt model 94 trapper!
