5.6x50 Mag

I have wanted to build a 5.6x50 Mag. for several years. The dies are available and so are reamers. The holdup is finding any brass that is available at a reasonable cost. Huntinton's used to have brass available but for 400 rds of brass was about the same cost as a new Remington action. Does anyone know of a source for German or Austrian brass, either new or once fired? Seems like there should be a distributer somewhere over there that could ship the brass as a reasonable price.

I think that as much fun as this would be to do, it very likely not worth the trouble all in all. I mean, you can't make the brass out of anything else, and what brass you find, if you can find it is going to be expensive, and performance is not much more than what you would get with a .222 Mag or 223 Imp. Don't think accuracy is going to be a bit better either.

I'm with you in that it would be a coolo gun, but why make it if is a royal PITA to get ammo and/or brass for? I mean, you do want to shoot it after you build it, right?

I looked at the 5.6x50mm case when I started on my 25-204. All the things Rustydust said put me off the case. The 204 Ruger case is the 222 Rem with the shoulder moved forward body slightly straightenned and the shoulder angle changed to 30 degrees. The capacity is near the 5.6x50mm and reamers for the 22/204 are availible from PTG and as I stated in another post a great FL sizing die can be made from a Redding 204 Ruger Type S FL Bushing die by changing the bushing and expander ball and stem. The neck oppenning in the die needs to be relieved slightly. I use the same 204 Redding die to load 22-204, 6mm-204 and 25-204. For a seater I use a Hornady with the sliding sleave the 224 cal is pretty much generic and will load almost all 224 cartridges.
