50 gr coyote bullet

I have been using the 40 gr vmax in my 1 & 14 twist Rem 700 LVSF 22-250 for several years. The last 3 coyotes I have killed with them have not bang flopped. The bullets are splashing and not penetrating. I have tried the 55 gr and my gun will not shoot them. I have pushed them hard and I can not get them to stabilize. Can you guys recommend me a bullet that will hold together a little longer in the 50 gr weight? Thanks!

Ok, 50g Sierra Spt is a high velocity bullet, excellent on coyotes.

Now, you have a problem, I have had a LOT of 223's and 22/250 rem 700's, and they all shoot 55g bullets. In particular, 55g Sierra's of all kinds, and the 55g Noslers, and 55g Hornady's.

Your rifle probably does not like the seating depth that you are using, or the powder. What 55g were you using?

55g Sierra spt, BTHP, BTSP are excellent in your rifle along with a 45g Sierra Spt and 50g Spt that are both excellent killers and will NEVER splash!

IMR 4895, 4064 are excellent with all bullet weights.

I shoot win 760 with the 55's.

Nosler Ballistic tips are another animal compared to the V max and the 55g Nosler is a Mack Daddy coyote bullet.

Good luck, and it is possible that your barrel does like light for caliber bullets. If that ends up being the case, then the 40g Sierra HP and the 45g Sierra spt will both be excellent choices for you.

Good luck

Most of my coyote kills have been with a 50g TNT out of a .223-they work like a cruise missile. They seem to go in and explode.

I had a 788 remmy that would'nt shoot 55 grain tipped anything!
had to feed it 50 grain tipped or 55 grain non tipped bullets.
just my personal experience

You could also try the 40gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. They are supposed to be tougher than the v-max. I think it was a 50gr Ballistic Tip, but I've seen deer shot and killed quickly behind the front leg without any splash.

I ran 50g Vmaxes for a long time before I just went to 55g for all my .223 loads.
never a fail with the 50g vmax & out to 435 yards longest coyote shot with that bullet.
The 53g vmax has done as well or better in my rigs also.

I run the 52 gr Amax through my 1 in 14 rem 700. Ive killed quite a few coyotes with this bullet over the last few years and had phenomenal performance. Bang flops every time, hit any kind of major bone though and they are NOT fur friendly at all.

The Speer 52 gr hp is very fur friendly out of the slow twist 22-250. Start them around 3600, 225 yards and less, and you will not need the needle and thread.

I have the same rifle, it loves 50 grain Vmaxs with IMR 4064 propellant, 3600 mv. I can not tell how many dogs have gone on to the otherside due to that rifle..
In my AR-15 rifles I use 55 grain Nosler Varmgedons..

My 14 twist 22-250's love the barnes 53 gr. tsx tiny in tiny out.

Ive loved the 50gr Nosler ballistic tip out of my 22-250. Haven't had one blow up yet. If I get a pass through, its 22 caliber going in and maybe ~1" exit at most.

Neither the 50 Vmax or B-tip have let me down. They shoot very well and wreck coyotes. Have put a couple big exit holes in a couple with each bullet, but no splashes.

I have a 700 VS Stainless in .22-250 that I bought 4 years ago for varmint hunting. I've not had good luck with any bullet except the Sierra 52 gr MK. The 50 gr has not worked for me and I've had minimal luck with 55 gr. The only thing that has shot good is the 52 gr.
