500 jrh brass question

I’m looking at buying a BFR in 500 jrh but if resizing brass is going to be to time consuming I am going to buy a 500 linebaugh.

Here’s my question, Can I reliable use 500 s&w simply cut back to 1.400” or is there more steps required to make it shootable? Here is a response from someone to me regarding this question:

When you cut off .2 inch of the case, if you can do it accurately with a lathe, you will have cut off approximately 1/2 of the thinned portion of the brass. The brass of all cases gets thicker as you go back. When this happens it limits the length of the bullet can be captured inside the case. Why does this matter? You will be limited to bullets that are minimally inside the case – in other words real light 500 caliber bullets. So that is not the solution to your problem since to do it properly, your cases need to be reamed further back so you can properly use any kind of bullet that you want.

Perhaps you should give John Linebaugh a call and see what he recommends? After all, he designed them and he has hunted big game far and wide with them as well.

His number in Cody is 307 6453332.
