56mm objective too big?

Would a 56mm objective be way to big for a Remington 700 sps tactical 223? Just worried about cheek weld cause the scope is gonna have to be mounted ob some high rings i believe

Plenty of folks run NightForce scopes with big bells. Just use the correct rings/base combo and you will be fine. You still thinking of replacing the hogue? If so, a raised comb stock would help, as well.

A $25. adjustable cheek piece(XLR Industries) will take care of te cheek weld. and you can drop it down to remove the bot for cleanning.

The Europeans use them all the time. A good 56mm scope sure does increase light gathering capacity. With a 223 you don't have to be as worried about recoil but the cheek weld is still important for accuracy.

Actually a 56mm objective does not GATHER light, it allows the scope to have the same bightnes at a higher power if coatings and glass are comparable, a 42mm scope will be as bright at 6x as a 56mm scope at 8x. at powers bellow those they will be equal as the human eye will only allow so much light in.

I have a few 56mm and there nice. Mine are setup as low as possible without a cheek rest. My check weld it's solid on both rigs.

Here's a 56mm mounted with low Talleys.

Curious what the advantage is with the 56 mm? Is there a noticeable difference or edge when the same brand/quality of scope in a smaller objective is compared???
