5mm Remington rimfire magnum

Yes, I have had mine since 1970, or so. I still have 197 rounds of original 38gr Core-Lokt ammo.

It is basically a slightly better round than the 22WMR, mostly because of the Core-Lokt bullet.

Try to keep the range inside of 100yds, if they are facing you, and, maybe add 20-30yds if broadside.

I've only taken a few coyotes with mine, but have shot lot's of other stuff with it.

Do you have the original, Remington-Peters ammo, or the Aguila?

I've not used the Aguila at all, so I can't comment on how that would work on game.

Thanks for the reply. I have 2 boxes of Aguila. 30 gr soft points and 30 gr hp. I also picked up a handi rifle with bull barrel in 22 Hornet. I should probably use that.

My neighbor has a 5mm Remington. He messed the bolt up somehow (it was misaligned after he tried to clean it) and I was able to fix it for him. Test cycled it and everything worked fine. Went to fire a round and the case ruptured and blew fragments of what I think was powder all in my face. They were perfectly round small disk like pieces. Thankfully I had on safety glasses. He was using the Aguila ammo. When the case ruptured, the plastic detachable magazine was blown into a few pieces. The bolt was in battery when we checked it afterwards. Not really sure what happened to cause it. That was my one and only experience with the round.

A shooting budding had a T/C Contender in 5mm. When the ammo supplies dried up he had it rechambered to .20/.22 K Hornet. Shot 1" groups with the 4x Leopold he had mounted on it. Pretty impressive I thought.
