6.5 CM for big game & hogs

Mornin' Gents,

I'm experimenting with the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Thanks to shoulder surgery a couple of years ago I am now somewhat recoil sensitive. Most of the hunting I do (except hogs) requires a lot of walking, so rifle weight is important. Getting to old and tired to lug around a lot of extra weight.

I bought a Bergara B-14 Woodsman 6.5 CM last fall to hunt mule deer, antelope and hogs with. It's a very nice rifle but not as accurate as I would like.

So, has anyone had any experience with the Tikka T3x CTR 20" in 6.5 CM. I hear they also came out with it in 24" barrel at the SHOT Show. Also, anyone shot the Sauer 100 in 6.5 CM.

I like the Forum - Getting lots of new useful info!

I have 2 6.5. A ruger precision gen 2 and a ruger hawkeye predator. The predator has killed lots of deer and pigs with a berger 130. Shoots really well also and is not too heavy to haul around. Actually thinking of selling the hawkeye if interested as i plan on using the precision more.

I don't have any experience with the Tikka. However, I've done a lot of research in preparation for buying a rifle in 6.5CM and have chosen the Ruger Hawkeye FTW Hunter. It is nearly identical in weight (7.6 lbs vs. 7.5 lbs for the tikka), is an M77 (itself very accurate) featuring upgrades suggested by a famous training outfit in Texas (FTW ranch) that specializes in long-range shooting , has an extra 4" of barrel, and comes with a muzzle brake for reduced recoil (if you want to reduce the amount of force delivered to your shoulder during target practice) that can be switched out with a muzzle weight (to keep your ears from bleeding while hunting) which won't change POI and keeps the rifle balanced the same as if the brake were attached.

I own a 6.5 CTR and really like it. It isn't exactly lite and the mags are tikka specific. It is however very accurate with a variety of ammo.

To all that have replied - Thank you for the info!!!

In response to your questions. First the Bergara with Hornady, and nosler factory loads is 1.75 to 2" groups. The best I've been able to do with reloads in 130 gr. Nosler AB, 140 gr. Nosler AB, and Hornady ELD-X143 is a 1.12 on 5-shots and a .778 on 3. Using RL-17, H4350, RL-15, and Varget.

I have a Tikka now that I dearly love, but recoil is a bit heavy anymore. It s the T3 Hunter in 300 wsm. It will shoot a .27" 3-shot group with Nosler 125 gr. BTs and .67 with Nocler 165 gr. ABs. The 125s chronographed 3639 fps. So, that is why I am leaning more to the Tikka. But will certainly research the Rugers and Savage.

Would like to stay with the 6.5 instead of the .260 cause that's what I'm set up for to reload. And, after awhile money does become a factor!

And, Bob I will check out the classifieds!

Starting Thursday I will be out-of-state on business for a couple of weeks so won't be receiving or responding to any posts.

Thanks again to all of you!
