6.8 "real word accuracy"

I am considering a rebarrel job on my 6.8 AR. Being new to the 6.8 and in an AR platform, what is the normal size group at 100 yds from a middle of the road barrel? I get one inch groups from my Model 1 barrel now and sometime a bit better. Am I just throwing money away on something I don't need? I have just started reloading for it and all I have tried so far is 110 Prohunters. I have some 90's to try, just haven't yet. Trigger is whore-able and I know that needs attention. Maybe I'm getting anxious for accuracy to soon. I'm pretty bad about that. Although a custom AR is really cool too!

If you are getting moa after trying only one load with a 6.8 with a bad trigger, the last thing I would do is swap the barrel. Unless, you are unhappy with the weight and handling of the weapon, I wouldn't change a thing. The 6.8 is 300 yard (400 tops) weapon, and unless you plan on shooting prarrie dogs (not the caliber I would choose) MOA accuracy is plently good enough. I might try some different loads just to see if they were better but sure wouldn't swap out the barrel just to try to get .5 MOA improvement on a 6.8.

1"/100 is good do not fix something that is not broken. I would give .5" to trigger and human error. I use Hor.120sst bullets, all I do is hunt with it, one fine bullet for pigs. I would put barrel money into a trigger.

I have a RRA 6.8 and I only get about moa groups, usually just a little under moa. I would stick with what you got...Just get a better trigger that will tighten up those groups some.I just tried the Barnes M/LE 85g bullet in front of 31grains of h322 and shot .800 3 shot groups. Jason

Yeh, I agree with the guys above that suggest you upgrade your trigger first. I have done some hand-loading for my NFA upper /18" BHW 3 groove but have yet to find anything it likes as much as the SSA 85grn Barnes TSX.

I agree with the "fix the trigger first" opinion. And then
really ring out the current barrel, with load development on
the bullets you intend to shoot. The 6.8 seems to like a few
different powders, but fast, consistent, and temp stable
powders lead the way. FWIW, I was at your same point, a year
or so ago. Not sure why, but I was.

I have a 6.8 SPC RRA upper that shot 90 gr. Sierras into
consistent sub-MOA groups(sub .5 MOA groups occasionally).
It also put 110 gr. VMax and 95 gr. TTSX bullets into MOA
or better groups, too. But velocity was not living up to
my expectations. So I built another upper with a AR
Performance 18" SPR barrel...SWEET! Slightly more accurate
than the RRA barrel, and I picked up 150-200 fps on the loads
I have checked. Not that I needed either improvement, but
I am happy with the new upper. The RRA upper has turned into
the HDR/"truck" gun, and the new upper is my brush country
deer rifle.

Watch out for the 6.8 SPC addiction. The next thing you
know is it will multiply into more 6.8s, 6mm WOA/6mm DTI,
etc. Nice case to work with in an AR-15 platform.

Well life has been keeping me busy but I finally got to the range and shot my wife’s 6.8 for the first time yesterday.

Considering that I was sick, winds from 6-10mph (average 6), 88 degrees, mounted a new mil dot scope, factory ammo, etc, the gun performed extremely well.

Using factory Hornady 120 SST, rated at 2460 fps out of a 16” barrel, the chrony showed a consistent 2523 (Wilson tac lightweight hunter 16” barrel).

Trigger is a 2 stage RRA
