6.8 spc?

I have a 20 incher built by Ben at Bison Armory. It's a tack driver. I've never shot 130's and have to ask why you would want to? There is a slight velocity increase with the 20 over a 16 inch but it's not much.... maybe not worth it. I like how the 20 inch handles and it balances out well. The difference in accuracy is zero. My barrel is a 1 in 11 and shoots the 120's fine. My bet is it will handle 130 fine as well but I can see no need for 130's. The 6.8 isn't a long range hammer... it's a fine round for the ar platform... perhaps one of the best... but it is a 400 yard cartridge. Most 130 gr bullets are not going to be able to be seated deeply enough to clear the magazine and feed in an ar... you'll have to single load.
 
I have a 18" and love it. Mine is a 1:10 twist and is a tack driver. I havent shot anything that heavy as like stated.. I dont see any need to. The 110-120 range is usually what I shoot and love it. I went with the 18" just cause it didnt weigh any more really and it balanced better. They say you get about as much as you can out of this caliber with a 16" barrel but I like how the 18" barrels handle better
 
The reason I asked about the bullets is I used to have a 270 and last night I found a bunch of 130 gr Hornady bullet last night in my reloading stuff. I just like ARs with 20 inch barrels
 
Mine shoots Berger 130gr VLD's fine with 1-11" twist. The VMax might be a problem due to the ogive and seating depth. I use PRI mags and can seat to 2.305 while most mags limit you to 2.900 or less. Some 130gr bullets are past the ogive that short and you won't have proper neck tension. Go to the 6.8 forum for specific bullets that have been tried.

Mine shoots Hornady 120 SST better than the 130 VLD.

The 20" will give you 50-60 more fps than the 18" but will be 22" with a flash hider, brake or comp. I have an 18" and wish I went 16" actually. With my 3.5-10x50 scope, 45 degree off set red dot and flashlight and 5 round mag loaded it weighs 11.7lbs. Jeeze, I coulda had an AR10! My RRA PP weighs in at 8.5lbs and is a pleasure to tote.
 
I just ordered a 6.8 with a 24 inch bull barrel. Haven't received it yet but I think I might have goofed. I was torn between 20 or 24. I guess I will see when I get to throw some rounds down range. 110g nosler accu bonds.

You didnt goof.. You can always shoot it a bit and then cut the barrel down to what ever length you want. Especially if the barrel is shooting good groups.. I would shoot it a while and see how you like it.. Then you will probably know exactly what length you want and you can just have it cut down and threaded if you wanted..
 
There was a gentleman over on 6.8 forums that built a 24" barrel to shoot the heavier bullets. He has some interest in using some slower powders to keep pressure up throughout the barrel for function purposes. Might check that site out some for info.
