I spoke to the owner of ar performance. he made it sound like I could get that kind of velocity out of an 18" barrel. I am going to learn more. it is supposed to be a super easy cartridge to reload for. no fire forming. Factory brass availability. No modified uppers. Only thing is the magazines. he said 6.8 mags from PRI are the best.
