Hi long range shooters I am fairly new to this exciting long range shooting and need some expert advice. I have a Rem 700 with a 27" pac nor barrel, 1-8 twist chambered in a 6-270 wsm. I have tried the 105 gr. a-max's but they just go poof. I like the 105 gr. berger vld hunting they shoot ok. But I want to use this for long range mule deer rifle and would like to try the berger 115 gr. vld match grade hunting. My question will the 1-8 twist stablize the bullet, berger says should be 1-7 or faster. Anybody have any experience or suggestions.

Thanks,

Jim

I think if you get the muzzle velocity up to 3000 fps you should be alright. Should be no problem with the 6-270. Look to reloader 17, reloader 22. Also check out the 115 dtac. The only way to know for sure is load em up and try em. good luck

I would not recommend these bullets at all for game!!!! I think they perform well on targets but not on big game unless you pick just the right spot!!!! I know the best of the west yadda, yadda but look where they are placing those bullets!!!!!

I would go with a nosler partition or 95 grain bal tip before a berger for hunting big game, I tried them and did not like their performance at all, just my .02.

If I remember right, a couple years ago Yotes2Call killed an antelope and a whitetail buck with one shot, at over 500 yards out of his .243 AI and a 115 VLD. Maybe he will chime in with his results.
