6mm BR Varmint Load

I came across a Model 7 chambered in 6mm BR. Guy built it as a lightweight huntin rifle, but didn't like the finish. LOL! 20" featherweight bbl, 1-10" twist. I got it for a song. Literally, I sang and danced for him. LOL! Not really, I traded him a Palm Pilot, some luepy 30mm rings and 8 lbs of powder. It's a huntin rifle for cryin out load! Not a beauty contest!

Anyway... I worked up a load with 87gr V-Max and 31gr of Varget. She is screamin at 2830fps. Found some loads with 55gr and 65gr bullets and think I might be able to break 3000fps with those bullets. Anybody got any expirience with a 6mm BR for varmints?

I got the data I am using from 6mmBr.com. Great site! They had a whole page dedicated to Varmint loads. I was just wonderin if anybody had tried the 6mmBr on Varmints or not. The 87gr V-Max is a great bullet for just about all the game around here in southern georgia. But, I am just curious how fast I can safely get a lighter bullet goin out of the rifle.... Can't help it, I am a tinkerer....

I can't say how fast you can get lighter bullets - check the loading sources - but I am using a 6mmBR 14" twist for a crow/chuck rifle, and it's great - try the 65 V-max, and the 70gr BlitzKing... they are both very fragile and accurate.

Yeah, I was thinking the 65grn V-max with the 1-10" Twist. Probably stabilize a little better than the 55grn and get [beeep] close to 3000fps. What kind of range are you getting with yours Catshooter?

The 87 V-Max is a great bullet, and I shoot it two different 6mm Rems (the full sized one), but it is really too long for the 6mmBR.

I'm getting a little over 3,400fps with the 65 V-max - the 65 and the 55 should both shoot very well.

The rifle I have is a heavy benchrest rifle, put in a field stock... groups are teeny, usually .3"~ish group size.
On windless days, a crow that is inside of 500 yds is dead meat. It shoots eggs at 400yds with 90% hit ratio at the clubs egg shoots on a calm day (or if I read the wind right!).

I like the gun, and it is one of my first choices for 500 and under.

For more than 500, on chucks, I think they deserve a little more slap down in the energy department, and I take a bigger rifle.

Cool, thats the kind of info I wanted to hear (read). The longer bullets actually work pretty good in my chamber. It is throated for the long 107 VLD's. So I got lots of room. Probably a little more free bore than I need, but it was the only reamer we had available when they guy built it.
