6mm V-max

I’d like to run the 58 gr Vmax in a 243. Has anyone experienced splash problems with the lighter Vmax bullets?
Will light weight Nosler’s hold up better on coyotes? I know the 87 Vmax are great on coyotes, but would like a load that shoots fast & flat.
Thx

Never had an issue with the 58, 65, 75 or 87 grains v-max in any of my 6mm/.243 calibers. 85% of my shots are 25-75 yds with some stretching out as far as 350 yards,

PS: I reload and push my loads as fast as I can, as long as the consistency/accuracy is there.

Both taken with my Ruger American 243 using Hornady 58gr Vmax. Both pictures are exits.

I’ve had mixed results with the 58gr from an 8 twist. Shot great. Splashed on entry at times. Insane exit damage at times. Probably be more consistent with slower twist. NBT’s always seem to perform better at similar weights in my opinion. YMMV?

Thx for the reply’s. I had the feeling the light 58 gr vm would splash at times. Not what I want. I guess a true soft point is in order. Maybe the 60 gr Seirra? Anyone have experience with them?

Never had a splash with the 87gr...come to think about it, never had a 58gr splash either.

6mm Remington 1-12 twist 58vmax 3950fps average on chrono. very accurate out of my rem 700. They kill just fine. Not a lot of issues

Hornady MAY have changed it since I last used them but I know for a fact that Nosler has a thicker shank for their BT bullets. The thickness of copper going up into the jacket tapers more gradually than a VMAX. At those speeds, youll find better performance in the Noslers. I found them more accurate too, I bought a pile of em before I changed that rifle I was running them in. YMMV

Id be surprised if you have a barrel that could shoot the 58s and 87 accurately. Takes a 10+ twist barrel to stabilize the 58s, which puts 90gr at the max upper side.

My 9.75:1 did not like them past 200yd, which defeats the purpose of shooting them. Stabilizes 75 beautifully.

Killed a bunch with the 55 gr Sierra. Fantastic fur friendly bullet if you stay off the edges. Never had a splash and they almost never exit. Currently shooting 75gr Vmax because the rifles in cue shoot them better than the lighter Sierra. Have a bunch of both on hand.

Speaking of Sierra, when I use up this box of 75 Vmaxes, gonna try some 70 Blitzkings to see if work any better than the Vmax. If nothing else, will shoot flatter out past 300 or so.

I have had several splashes with the 58 Vmax. Under 200 yards........ and it is anyone's guess what the results will be. Beyond 200 they are pretty good. Also, I had much better results when handloaded and slowed down to about 3600 fps. They are ridiculously accurate (some of the best groups I have ever seen) and they hit like the hammer of Thor, but are too unpredictable when loaded to factory velocities. I first started using them in factory Winchester VarmintX. Box said 3850 fps. Those were the ones I had splashes with. I have had fantastic results from 60 grain Sierra hollow points at 3550. VERY fur friendly.

I’ve been running 75gr V-max out of a 6mm AI for a few years now. I have loads worked up that I can use for fire forming or fully formed brass. I’ve had them up close to 3700fps but things were getting pretty messy unless they were out there aways. 3400fps speed range gave me the best blend of performance that I found. Very accurate in my rifle. They hit extremely hard and things were on the cleaner end of things. I was keeping hides when I did all this playing. Not so much these days though. She’s full heat all the way.
