6mm WOA Range day

Had a really busy weekend but was able to get out on sunday afternoon to get some range time on the 6mm WOA that John built me. I resized about 200 shells and primed about 100 SSA brass. Grabbed some H322 powder and some 75gr Sierra HP's. Started with 24gr and went up to 26gr on .5gr intervals. The gun was clean and lubed. First load at 24gr had 10 rounds loaded and then 24.5 also had 10. 5 extra of each was to get on target. It was a great afternoon. Little or no wind, 80* temp, and NNNOOO ONE AT THE RANGE. First few shots were to get on target which only took 5 rounds. Loaded the first test group of 24gr of h322 which ended up being just a little over 1 1/2". The next was 24.5gr that was just a little over 1". Went and picked up about 50 rounds of renington 223 brass that was left there on saturday. Then went to 25gr and shot 5 which was even better than the 24.5. Went to the 50yd range and picked up 25 MT remington 223 brass while the barrel was cooling. I went back and shot the 25.5gr of h322 and it was at of just slightly better than the 25gr. So I went and shot the rebuilt 10/22 at the 25yd range to get it on target and picked up another 50 rounds of remington 223 range brass. The last load for the 6mm WOA was 26grs of h322 which started to open the group up. I think that I have some really good starting loads to work from in the 25-25.5gr area.
Here is the 25gr group

This upper really is a great shooter in my opinion and will should be a hammer on yotes. I did not have the crono with me due to being on a public range but will try and get out sometime this week to crono the loads and shoot some groups at 300yds. John over at WOA has built me 2 of the most accurate uppers that I own and they have been very easy to load for. One heck of alot easier to load for than my 6x45 upper. I did have to wait a few weeks longer to get the upper that what I was told. But after shooting my 3rd group I was grinning from ear to ear and could not be happier. So far it has been a cake walk to load. Neck down, prime, drop powder, seat bullet and shoot. NO NECK TURNING. Once again well WORTH THE WAIT. Thank you very much to John at WOA. Also Thank you Squeeze for all your help.

Looks good.

I have not heard of any inherent problems with loading the 6X45mm. I think just about every load I try shoots good with a good barrel. In fact I told Mike Milli that with a good bullet I think I could put oatmeal in the case and get decent groups with the 6X45mm.

Venatic that is what I have heard about the 6x45 also but not the case with my upper. I'm still trying though. I have one load that will shoot 1-1 1/2" groups most of the time and once in awhile be just under. Might have to rebarrel it with someone elses 6x45 barrel. But for now it will go on the back burner.

DD, the groups look decent, but you may want to run them over the chrono to see what they are doing?
I have a couple buds who shoot the 6WOA and they are up & over 30 grains of powder when pushing 75s. 25-26gr sounds waaaaay low on the powder charge. Just something you may want to look into...

I see your length is 2.253" is that length so it fits in your mag or can you go longer? Which mag are you using? I know most prefer the 2.3" if they fit in your mag. I agree with knockemdown powder might be light check you brass for pressure signs and maybe start working it up.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I might be able to load them a little longer maybe. These were dang close to mag length in the 5round PRI mags. I may try to bump them up a little on powder charge but I don't want to start trashing brass. I'll also have to see how it does at 200 & 300yds. I was the first loads through the gun and I did not want to have to pull a bunch of bullets if I found out I had to turn the necks. For being the first time out it sure felt nice. Will keep up to date if I get out with the crono this week.

We all are just throwing our 2 cents out there, at the end of the day you need to do whats right for you. I'd just take small steps upping your charge watching you brass for stress signs as you go.

Getum I know what you are talking about. Read lots on 6mmwoa web(can't remember what the exact name) about guys that have pushed the powder charge and the primer pockets and necks splitting. I did talk to John and he said that I should be in the ball park for what I want to use it for if the speed is to my liking. I'm going to crono the two loads before I start checking for more powder. I'll take accuracy and brass life over speed. I'll keep you up to date.

I have pushed mine a lot harder than you have so far and have never had an issue with brass. Both of mine really like the 65 or 75 grain v-max. I can push the 58 grain v-max 3400 fps easily and not have any issues, I just really like the way the 75's dump a coyote. It is very very easy to load for and a great round to shoot and still my go to gun if there is money on the line.
One is a lightweight 22" barrel made by Dan C and the other is a heavy 26" barrel from Mike Milli

I always thought the 6x45 was a piece of pie to load for??? Like vanatic, about anything I put in mine shoots very similar.

That said, I have been looking hard at the 6WOA or 6DTI latley. Might have to break down one day soon.

I only wish my 6x45 was as easy to find a load that it liked. I have found one that is close but it has taken lots of different powders and bullet combos to get one that will shoot 1-1 1/2 at 100yds. But the 6mmwoa seems to like the 1st bullet/powder combo that I tried.

It is harder to find a combo that shoots really poorly in
the 6mm WOA. I made the mistake of shooting the 68 gr.
Berger in my first load. I kind of got use to ragged one
hole sub .5 MOA groups. Then I worked with a 85 gr. Speer
SPBT, and even this plain jane hunting bullet went sub-MOA.
So I tried the Barnes 80 gr. TTSX, and hit my first
challenge. I had to do some fiddling in load development to
get to 1 MOA, but that isn't that unusual for Barnes TSX/TTSX
bullets. The issue is seating depth makes a big difference
in Barnes bullets, and the AR-15 box mag limits that a bit.
I will probably try the 85 gr. TSX bullet next, as for some
reason, I have had better results with the non-tipped
Barnes bullets over the tipped ones. At any rate, my 6mm WOA
is easy to find accurate loads for. I don't get hung up on
velocity. If I want to drive a 6mm bullet fast, I have a
6mm Rem.

I have to get back to the reloading bench. Should have hit it last night but to many other family things going on. If I would have had some loaded up last night you would not be hearing from me until tomorrow because I would be out shooting.
