Ok I just got my rifle and have a load shooting pretty good with 87 g Bergers but was wondering if i would be better off with the two 87 g bullets from hornady? It's a bhw 22" bull barrel 1:9 twist. My load currently is with fc brass cci 450 primers 87 g Berger vld 27g 8208 seated at 2.295 or so they shot two touching and the third about .7" low of the first two shot at 100 yards haven't shot this load further yet. Any opinions would be great.

I don't shoot VLD's in that one much. Mostly the 87 Hornady bullets. I think I'd experiment a bit with them and a few other powders to go along with it. Check your distance to lands and work with that too.

Ok what powders do you recommend to try? I have varget, h4895, h4350, h4831, 8208, Imr 4831. Also I have the tool for checking the lands but how can I make a modified piece of brass for it I remeber you talking about making it before but don't know the exact details for doing it. Also how do you window a Mag?

ON the Hornady you can either drill and tap it yourself and at times you have to open the case neck with a Dremel to allow the bullet to slide through. Of course Hornady will do it for you for a few dollars. I'm using the SINCLAIR that doesn't require and mortification and is much faster and repeatable.

Basically windowing the mag is just cutting out the front down to between 5-7 cartridges. The Creedmoor guys started it most notably with the HAGAR. I'll take a picture later if I have time and post it up. Creedmoor Sports had some on their website last time I looked a long time ago. A milling machine but it can be done with simple tools and time.

Actually I run the case up in a die until it is "secure" flip the die over and drill and tap the hole. Tap is 5/16-36 drill is 9/32. Be sure to get the pointy tap. I sent my good one off to Ritch and then replaced it and ordered one of the flat faced ones and they are harder to start.

I then just slide the shell holder onto the ram/case and extract.

I have several same chambered guns and and made up a case for each specific one. I just engrave the rifle designation on each one.

With the SINCLAIR you just use a fired case. I engrave them also to keep track. I have thee four 243 LBC's and three 6X45's and who knows how many other duplicates. Those cases are kept in a box so I can reference them quickly.

I bought a modified hornady 6.8spc case, ran it in my bushing die to 6mm, then put emery cloth around a 6mm brush and opened the mouth up just so it grabs the bullet, but lets it slide. works perfectly.
My 85-87g powder is x8208.
28g runs the 85s at 2983 to 3047 fps and the 87 vmax at 3044 fps
90g NHBT at 3105/95g at 3037
Using R-P lrp brass, not a single issue w/pressure/flat primers etc.
I can go up 1-2gr, but the groups go to heck especially w/the 87g vmax bullets.
The above are in a Savage bolt gun w/a BHW 22" bbl.
