David Tubb's 6XC is supposedly going to become a factory round. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I must say, I would like to own a rifle so chambered. For those who don't know, Tubb has been piling up wins using this cartridge. There is info on www.zediker.com

The 6XC is Tubbs answer to the 243, which he shot and lost a National Championship with because of bullet blowups. The fast twist 243 is a great round but a barrel will not last for a week at the Camp Perry National Championships. Just too much powder being burnt. The 6XC reduces that powder capacity enough so that a fast twist barrel will last through the week. The fast twist 243 can have blowups as early as 600 rounds, the 6XC not under 1000.

The competition for the 6XC is the 6.5-284 which is also good for at least 1000 rounds and has good ballistics but quite a bit more recoil.

Recoil is a big deal when you are shooting 100 rounds a day under intense competitive pressure.

How about a 6XC Nesika? I'm wanting something different. Something custom. Am also considering 25wsm, 25-284, and 6.5-284.--2MG

A friend of mine has one in a Tubb rifle (he shoots highpower as a high master, and also Palma with a .308 barrel). He swears by it. Does well on prairie dogs and rockchucks too.

Back in the 50's the Army came up with a round called a 6INT off the 250 case was used for the 300meter also Rem made the 40x in 6 Int. Later the 6HLS came along build on the 22-250 case was use in the HBR matches. Now we have the 6x and 6xc off the 22-250 case. Seems like we may of come full circle back to the 50's had they of played with the 250 case more we just may of that the 6x earlier. I shot the 6HLS years ago a with a 68gr match bullet and have a reamer for a 6x22-250AI waiting for a barrel then off to the gunsmith. I've heard there has been some problems with Tubb's 115gr 6mm bullet at 1000yds saw that on a post from BR Central 1000yr forum.

roper,
More info please. To my knowledge the AMU did not exist in the 50s. 300meter is an old Olympic sport.

When the Army Advance Markmanship Training Unit became interested in 300 meter competition in 1957/58 this 6mm wildcat was one of the cartridges they tested but decided to use the 308 instead. Little more was done with this round until it was picked up by the BR guys. In some of the older Sierra Manual they give a good history of that round with the Army also in the first Nosler reloading maunual they have that round but list it as 6x250. Sierra testing was done with a factory rem 40x 1/14 twist barrel and Nosler was with a 1/12 twist.

I'm older than dirt having started to reload back in the 60's so do have some knowledge on certain rounds which in this case Jack there is data others there isn't. When the 6HLS came out there was also different version alot was just word of mouth if need someting in print may take a year or more to get out not like what we have now. My post was to show that the 22-250(250) case has been played with for almost 50yrs in 6mm. What Tubbs found out is you can change the 22-250 case and it can fit a bullet weight pretty good. Kind of what those earlier guys did from the 6INT to 6HLS to 6x250AI.
