700 barrel on a 722 action??

I dont think so the thread diameter on a rem 700 is 1.0625 and the 722 I think is 1.05

The threads are the same on the 700 and 722/721 rifles. 1.0625x16

that is not a problem , had a old 722 action rebareled to 338/06 with a rem barel

thank you gentlemen!!one other question,this 722 that I am buying is in 222 caliber and the guy I am buying from tells me the barrel is shot out,is that possible on a 222???

lungpopper, be very careful of the extractors on the 722's.

If the extractors are worn or broke on the 722's, then your only option is to have a Sako or M-16 extractor installed. Replacement 722 extractors are gone forever. None of the current 700 extractors will fit the 722.

Before I will ever buy a 722, I want to cycle a new case through it, several times.

It cost me $125 to learn this lesson. The last 722 action that I bought would not allow a current 700 barrel to be screwed in...threads in action too small.

So, I ended up having the 722 action trued and Sako extractor installed...made a silk purse out of a Sow's ear.
Now I have a $525 Rem 722 action...duhh...huhh...

lungpopper; have the barrel checked by a gunsmith. If it isn't too bad the barrel can be cut off and rechambered. It just depends on how bad the barrell is.
