Hi guys I'm new here but I'm in desperate need of some help. I just recently purchased in 700 LTR in a 223 and can't get it to shoot. I've tried 55gr SP in remington and federal as well as 55gr hornady v-max, I can't get any better than a 2" group. This gun should be a shooter, I've done the trigger and it's set at just over 2lbs. unfortunatly I dont handload so any help or sugestions would be appreciated.

First of all let me be the first to welcome you to the board.
When you say 2" groups I'll assume you mean @ a 100 yards.
As far as your rifle goes there's a list of things you need to check. Make sure all the action screws are tight and at the proper torque. Check scope mounts and rings are tight. While the barrel is new, it is also rough and requires being cleaned frequently until seasoned. Don't be surprised if your groups get better as the barrel wears in. You may also have to lap the barrel to get the best accuracy possible. While we're on the barrel subject, make sure it's not touching the stock anywhere except before the recoil lug. Next bed the action in what ever manner you prefer.

I'll also assume since your developing loads for a new gun you're shooting these groups over flags. If the wind can blow a 747 off course it will do the same to a 55gr pill. Most .223's will shoot whatever you stuff down the chamber provided the twist rate ia right. I believe Remington rifles their production barrels with a 1 in 12. This should be adequate for the ammo you're trying. And lastly start handloading for it.

Welcome to the board.
We are back to the 1 in 9 twist thing again as this was introduced in the .223 LTR. 9's are finicky but loads should shoot much better than that. The loads you mentioned 55gr SP's are not tack drivers but should shoot close to an inch. However, Rem is not known for its quality control and their ammo is not well liked. Fed is has quality control but SP loads are hunting loads.

Good advise given on checking everything to see if it is correct. PMC 55gr HP's generally shoot pretty well in 1 in 9 twist rifles. 52gr Black Hills is another one to check. Another good one is Winchester's 40gr Supreme.

Thanks guys, I've FINALLY found some thing that works. The winchester white box 45gr. hp's shoot like a dream and the best thing is there cheap. first shot from a clean barrel is about a half in high but the next three are a tight clover-leaf. It's a big change from what I was gettin.
thanks again.

TDAVIS , glad to hear its shooting better. I just bought one of the ltr's at the gun show a week back and Im taking it to the ranch to run it through the paces this week. I always had good luck with the 55gr. nosler balistic tips in my remington vs so I'll give those a try. They are bad coyote medicine. Good luck
