700 Mountain rifle

I seen a 700 Mountain rifle in 243 last week at a local shop, the thing that threw me though was that it had a synthetic stock and a matte finish, I have never seen one like this before. I had a walnut stocked 280 back in the day. My question is does anyone have any experience with these?? Is there any advantage of a BDL over a ADL?? this rifle is pretty much priced like a ADL. Thanks

Snatch it up!

That rifle was made for Cabelas as a special run. They're extremely light and they SHOOT! They come with a B&C Ti stock.

Gander Mountain did a special run with Remington, too, but they were in stainless steel.

ADL vs BDL is a personal preference. BDL is easier to unload. ADL, IMO, makes the rifle a little more trim line. I prefer ADL on my rifles.

I ended up picking up a .243 Mnt Guide this summer and love it.

Thanks for the info, I knew that I hadn't seen that type of rifle before. I kinda thought that the only differences in the model was just cosmetic, only reason for asking was that I have been looking around for a 243 and have seen both the ADL and now this Mountain rifle, sounds like you have a winner.

While Mike is correct... Remington did put out some REALLY nice Mtn's with the "TI" B&C stocks & marketed them as "Guide Guns" for Gandor & Cabela's (as he said one was stainless & one was matte blued). I bought the Cabels's version for my son when he was 9 (several years ago, he was small framed & was still strong enough to move it around in a box). He killed his 1st deer with it & several more... He still hunts with it & I carry it from time to time as well (when taking a pretty good hike or also toting a climber). It's in .243Win also & is about perfect cartridge for that frame.

However, not all the synthetic 700Mtn came with the B&C stock. They also produced a run of Mtn rifles with the tupperware plastic crap stock that came on the regular ADL rifles. When you pick the rifle up you will know if the stock is a "good" B&C composite or a flimsey POS. Either way, if the rifle is priced right, you can find the TI takoffs for ~$125-$175 on the forums.

Thanks for the reply, the rifle is clearanced at $459, not exactly sure on the stock, but like you said can always buy a replacement.

Yep, I'd buy it. I really like the frame of the rifle & the .243 cartridge doesn't punish you with the really light rifle. Works for a predator calling rig, stand deer hunting, walking... really pretty much whatever need you have for normal hunting ranges. Put a 2.5-8 Leupold & a McMillian Edge on it (if it doesn't have the TI) & you really will have the ultimate!

I have one of these in .22-250 sitting in my safe that I took on a trade and never even fired it yet. Might have to revisit it to see if it is worth keeping or not.

Thanks for the good info!

Well went down a bought the rifle this morning, turns out its the model with the ADL style stock, I came out a little ahead in the deal, I guess like they had a model 7 in 243 and this 700, well they sold the model 7 and put it in the 700 box, so my gun didn't have a box, so they knocked off another $20 on the gun and gave me a plastic case to bring it home in. I wasn't going to complain, so with the money I saved I just went down the street and found a set of RCBS dies for it, now I just need to figure out if I want to keep this stock or replace it, and decide on a scope.

I have a friend that has that rifle and it's really nice, it shoots really well for his 243 with 75gr vmax rounds and it's amazingly light. I think it's under 7lbs. So hiking around with it is nothing.. I also hate to say it, but when he pulls the trigger it's a dead dog and i don't even get a chance.
