Deciding on a charging handle for my AR build and came across the Vltor BCM Gunfighter and noticed it wasn't forged like the upper it will be placed in. I'm curios to know whether there will be excessive wear on either the charging handle or upper because of one being forged and one being billet? They are both of the same aluminum (7075-T6)

Not really sure about metals and the terminology that comes with them yet, so please bear with me if my questions was totally ignorant

Edit: the difference between billet and forged has to do with the process used to generate the initial shape of the piece. Forgings are made by applying very large amount of force to metal to bring it close to its desired shape. Think blacksmith. It can be done to hot, but not molten metal; or to cold metal. Once the piece is close, you machine it into the final product.

Billet is simply a block of metal as shipped from the mill. Cut a piece close to the size of your part, mount it in your CNC mill and watch the shavings fly.
