So I have a new box of Hornady 75gr BTHP match bullets I'd like to try out in my American .223. Any one get these to shoot well in their 1:8 22" barrel? Which powder are you running? Any advice on which of these powders may be best suited for this application? Not trying to poach your pet load just a powder recommendation is all Im looking for. I can do the load work

. I have..

BLC2
Benchmark
VV135
748
TAC
I4320
I4064

Thanks for any input! -David

When I had my American 223 I was having the best luck with Varget for the 75 gr BTHP. 4320 I believe is right close to Varget on the burn chart .

I have never seen anything other than a picture of Varget. Never seen it on a shelf in person. Does it really exist?

4320 is available all over the place so it would be great if that turned out to be what it shoots best!

The blc2 and benchmark show up infrequently but I have a lb of each still.

I never had much luck with Benchmark above 55 gr bullets. 55 and below Benchmark is the only 223 powder I shoot.

There's one gun shop around here that usually has some Varget but the reason they have it is their prices are rediculous on powder. I got desperate and paid 37 dollars for a pound of Varget.

I was just in a sporting good store in Bozeman (sorry don't remember which) and they had a few 1 lb cans of Varget.

IF you make it over to Billings its all over in Billings on the right day.

Thanks noobie I will hit all the usual spots when I'm in town next. Maybe I'll get lucky. And I better shoot one hole groups with this magical [beeep]!

Honestly. It's hard to beat 4895 either variety. I run the IMR formula. Work up to about 24.0gr.

TAC works well too. Work up to about 25.5gr with the 75gr BTHP.

This works well in my 9 twist 20" barrel.
