7600 feeding issues?

I just got a 7600 35 Whelen and it is not loading correctly. The rounds will not slide into the chamber, instead, they are hitting something and the bolt is not able to move forward. Is this a mag issue or a feed ram issue?

My guess is a magazine problem. The Remington magazines have been inconsistent over the years and caused plenty of trouble.

I would guess mag issue also. On my old 742 if it starts having issues I replace the clip and it's good to go. Never leave cartridges loaded in the clip for extended periods. That will cause issues.

Throw that magazine away right now, don't keep it around or it may cost you an animal. Buy two or three extra's. When the lips get bent the slightest, they are ruined, cause all kind of problems.

Also, take your rifle with the bolt open and look at the top of the receive for any kinds of gouges where the bolt could be coming back slamming the top of the receiver putting dings in the metal.

Folks throw their magazines around, they get ruined easy.

Also, be sure your magazine is completely seated in the gun, look for heavy drag marks on the sides of the magazine.

From what you describe, the round is coming out of the magazine prematurely, meaning the lip is bent. As you can see, if you own a rifle that uses magazines, you need a couple of spares.

The only problem you will have is if you try and "fix" that screwed up mag.

Dear Lord Almighty!!! $45 for a 760 mag!?!?!?! I knew they jumped from $15 to $25 a few yrs ago all of a sudden, but $45?? Glad I have three for my two guns. Didn't know so many had issues with them. I know sooooooo many ppl that have the Amish Machine guns here in PA, and havent heard much of mag issues - good to know about it any how. I think my original two have been loaded since 1979 when I got mine - havent had spring issues but not saying it cant happen - note to self.....

We used to load 5 rds in the mags once we found out we could do it, but that stretched the mags out sideways and you had a heck of a time getting them to seat in the mag hole right. Then I would have the problem the OP is having. Mag would only go in so far, and the bolt would slam the bullet into the receiver below the feed ramp, and shave half the bullet off. I got the mags "squeezed" back down and keep 4 rds in them and they work well again - guess I got good ones.

Ck. your mag out, and if it's one of the aftermarket ones, change it out with a known good one, and make sure its seating all the way.
