7MM-08 Ackley

I have a 7MM-08 Ackley, 10 twist barrel that shoots 100 grain Sierra HP like a lazer. FPS is a chrony'ed 3450. My problem is I'm afraid the HP's will do to much damage on a Whitetail. I've tried alot of other heavier bullets, but the accuracy just isn't there like with the HP's. I get sub-1/2 inch with the Sierra's and would like to stay there. Most of the heavier bullets open up to 1 inch. Suggestions please.
Thanks-pyscodog

Tried the TTXS, never been able to make a Barnes bullet shoot very good. Tried every thing (seems like) from 120's to 139's,SST's, Accu-bond, V-max, all shoot around an inch give or take. The 100 grain Sierra cuts a raged hole. I know the accuracy is there, just haven't found it yet.

The Nosler 120 Ballistic Tip isn't too expensive and it is a real deer getter. Turns out that the 120 has the same cup as the 140, so in a 120 the cup is thicker and holds together really well. Most 120 grain and lighter bullets are designed as varmint bullets. The Nosler is the exception. Accuracy is really great too. I recently set up a 7-08 for a friend's daughter. The final sight in group was .605 inch.

Your AI is a great cartridge and will do well with a lot of bullets.

We have been shooting the 130g Speer BT for many years loaded with a max load of IMR 4895 with a 91/2 pimer and getting really great accuracy.

This bullet really flattens deer out to 325 yards which is as far as we have killed any, and everyone that we turn on to the 130g BT had rather fight than switch.

We shot quite a few deer with the 120g Nosler BT in a 7 Mag at 3500 fps, so there is not worries about it working well in your AI!

Good luck

Don't know if it'll help, but there is a .284 110 gr. flat base bullets in the Barnes TTSX line -may be short enuf to stabilize well for ya.

Honestly? For deer hunting? Yes. If it was with the bullet I wanted to use most.

Deer hunting does not require BR type accuracy. I've taken tons of deer with rifles that shot greater than moa. Matter of fact, I would say the vast majority of deer taken in the history of deer hunting were taken with such rifles.

The old standard used to be 1.5 moa. IME, deer have not become any harder to hit....

I would worry more about the light HP failing to penetrate then a heavier sp that shoots 1 moa. If you can't get the barnes to shoot try the 139 gr GMX from hornady, was the more accurate of the 2 for myself. With the AI should be able to keep the velocity somewhere between 2900 and 3000.
