7mm-08 hunting load

Just recently started load development for a Savage Model 16 Weather Warrior 7mm-08 and so far IMR-4350 with a 140 gr Accubonds has been the goods. I'm gonna try Varget and IMR-4064 and see what happens. Courious to know what other 08 shooters are using? Main use will be for deer but wouldn't rule out using it for Elk too if the opportunity presented itself.

A 7 08 I recently had rebarreled to 243 licked the Hornady 139gr.sp with H414 and my current 7 08 doesn't. It loves the Barnes 120gr TSX with RL15.

Lots of 7/08's love H414 and 42-43g of Varget with the 140g, primer choice will make the deal. Hopefully, your rifle will like them.

Just so you know, our family in SC has killed couple hundred deer with this load:

130g speer btsp
42.0g of IMR 4895
Rem 9 1/2
Rem brass
Bullet touching the lands
3000+ fps

Squashes deer to 325 which is as far as we have shot them. We have converted a lot of 7/08 shooters to this load, kills deer like a big magnum in our Rem 700's. This load seems to be pretty consistent in a Rem 700 in accuracy.

I still am wanting to try this load You recommended it years ago. I will I PROMISE hahaOriginally Posted By: ackleymanLots of 7/08's love H414 and 42-43g of Varget with the 140g, primer choice will make the deal. Hopefully, your rifle will like them.

My M70 Fwt likes several loads, but the two I favor for deer are

Big Game/120 Ballistic Tip
and
Varget/139 Hornady Interlock

For elk I loaded 140 Partition/Varget

I haven't killed hundreds of deer but I'm loading 42.5 grs of H4895 , Federal large rifle primers, and Speer 130 gr BTSP bullets. Not sure what the velocity out of my Savage 16FSS is but the deer here in West Tennessee go down quick . I use this load on yotes as well with great affect.

The load I use for my T/C Encore in 7-08 (15" barrel) is 47gr. of CFE223, a Nosler 120 with Winchester primers. I haven't checked it with the V3 but it was printing an inch higher than my loads using IMR-4350 at 100yds.

Here Kitty Kitty

Nosler book. Around the max charge of Reloader 15 works with 140 or 150 grain Nosler BT or Partition. Am also working a load with H380 that looks good.

For baby girls rifle,
Rem 700 boyds stock
Varget and 4064 are interchangeable, current load is like ackleyman but substitute a 139 sst.

I've owned a handful of 7-08's and built a handful more in AR-10's - if a 140 Accubond over 42.0grn of Varget doesn't shoot well, there's probably something wrong with the rifle.

Mack Daddy deer load:

130g Speer btsp
42.0g of IMR 4895
Rem brass
Rem 9 1/2 primer
Seat bullet to touch the lands
3000fps+

Will make a believer out of you!

I'm gonna stop by the shop I get my powder at on my way home from work between now and Friday and see if he has RL-15 to try. Loaded some 140 gr Accubonds with Varget to see how they do.

Just picked up a used 7mm-08 in a 700 VLS and wanted to see if'n it would shoot or needed a new barrel.

IMR4350 behind several brands/weights of pills from 120gr to 168gr.

45.0 gr IMR4350 , wolf primers and 140 gr Berger VLD Hunting shot 5 rounds into 0.430 @ 100 yds. Unknown velocity.

42.0 gr IMR4350 , wolf primers and 168 gr Berger VLD Hunting shot 5 rounds into 0.328 @ 100 yds. Velocity, 2,430 fps.

So, it'll shoot the Bergers quite nicely. Now a ladder test to fine tune.
