7mm Bullet Selection

I have been hunting with the 7mm-08 now for about 15 years and cannot say a bad thing about it. Probably the most perfect whitetail caliber ever developed. My question relates to bullet selection. Should bullet weight be over 140 grains or under? Who has the more effective hunting bullet for deer? Sierra Game King, Hornady Interlock, Nosler BT, Remington, Winchester, Barnes? I don't want to start a psn contest here, just interested in your input.

Lots of people like the Barnes. I personally found 140 Nosler ABs to shoot better in my gun. If whitetail is the only thing I would just go with whatever shoots best. If Elk or Moose are a possibility you would have to go with a TSX or a Accubond, something that holds together a little better.

Game kings and Nosler BTs I have always found to break apart way too easy. Not so much of an issue on whitetail, but not ideal for bigger game.

I now use 160 nosler ABs in my only 7mm, a .280.

I really like the 139 sst by hornady...still breaking in a new barrel but results are looking very promising.

I just use a 140 GK in my 7-08 and 7 rem mag for deer. I also like the 120 NBT in the 7-08.

And lately, for my 7RM, I've been working a 160 AB load. That will be my do all load. It shoots under 1/2" at 100.

And after finding out some info on Barnes, I'd rather not give them another dollar as long as I live.

I have tried several different bullets in my 7mm-08, I was not impressed with the SST, I like the Hornady Inter-bond, but I think the old 139 grain SP, which is the inner lock, is as good a bullet as you need for deer. All of the above were 139 grain, I also tried the 140 grain Pro-hunter from Sierra, any of them will work. I would like to try some 120 grain bullets but just haven't got a round to it yet.

I like Sierra bullets.I shoot them in my 7x57,280 as well and my.223.Weight for deer is really just a matter of which your gun likes.

If you want your Remington 7/08 to really impress you on deer, try this:

130g Speer BTSP
43.0g of IMR 4895
Rem case
Rem 9 1/2 primer
Bullet seated to touch the lands;clover leaf groups; fast
Don't change primer in the above recipe, you will be very happy!

This is the mashemflatmagnum load in a very compact case.

you will find that berger and sierra make the best,140 and 168gr. are great.we just killed two elk with each and we shoot almost every day.their B.C. and performance is unequaled, they just don't advertise as much as some.i have shot over 800 coyotes with a 25.gr. berger out of my 17.rem that kills better than my 22-250 ever did, before we had bergers.

load them as close as you can to the lands,140's would be my choice but both should work.sometimes the barrel won't let you shoot the 168,140's are more accurate
