Anybody use this round still. Picked up a barreled action on a trade (700 stainless 26" barrel w/muzzlebrake). Thinkin about putting it on an Accurate Innovations laminated stock. I know from what I'm reading on it that it sounds like a bruiser.

This is the first Long action magnum that I have owned and need some input.

It'll romp you. I've not shot one with a brake but I shot one running 180 vlds and it rocked the crap outta me. Lot more than my 7 mag. I like it.

Nah. You should send it to me! Honestly if you just hunt Kentucky you probally don't have any use for it. It's got long legs and deserves to stretch them. I'd trade it for something that will suit your range of shooting. It's also expensive to shoot, even to reload for. 100+gr if powder per shot doesn't last long.

I shoot the 7 rem ultra mag which is close to the stw and really like it can sling my 120 gr down range at a good little speed and can reach out there also it's fun to shoot

I have one with a break on it, the recoil isn't that bad. I havnt had it out since I got a 7 wby shooting 180 gr jlk's. But you are right It's a long range rig with the right bullet.

new to the site yet but the 7stw is a good round. I own 3 rifles in this caliber and have taken both mule deer and elk with it. Flat shooting and recoil is really not bad at all.

I shoot in local long distance shoots. One of the guys is at least 75 and shooting a sporter contour unbreaked 7mm STW. We are talking around 46 rounds in a day for this guy that must wheght about 150lbs.

The recoil energy table I looked at classed it shooting a 160 grn along side the 300wsm shooting a 180grn or 300 win shooting a 165 grn, all in the 27lb of recoil energy range. I don't think I'd want to shoot the 600 N.E. it tops the list at 154lb of recoil energy with a 900grn going 1950 fps. My friend shoots the 7mm STW and loves it. He's 5'4 and about 140lb on a good day.

I have two customs

120g tripple shocks with R#22, fed 215, 3750fps
120g Tsx, IMR 7828, win mag, primer, 3850 fps

tiny groups with both

Brother has two also, we shoot the 140g Nosler C/T bullet at 3550 fps. Between the two of us, we have killed 100 deer at least, and we have never had one take a step after being hit, not even one step.

I use Vias muzzle breaks and brother does not.

My first 7 STW was in 1989 or 1990, right after Lane Simpson put out loading data. We fire formed cases with R#22 with the nosler 120g Solid base lead tips killing deer as we went, using 8 Rem Mag brass necked down.

The 7 STW will probably go the way of the 257 Roberts.

The 7 Super Mashburn is close which is fire formed out of 300 Win Mag brass and will give you more room in the magazine box.

I had my 7 STW reamer ground with zero freebore with a 1 1/2* leade angle.
