A little Rimfire practice

Just thought I’d post something to talk about.

I bought a Fatboy Tripod & Levitate Leveling head awhile back, and have yet to shoot off it. I decided to throw my pinch clamp on it so I could send a few 22lr down range. I grabbed some of my plinking ammo, Federal Lightning solid points that someone gave me a brick of forever ago. I set out a 50 yard target and shot a 25 round group sitting (top center) and a 25 round group standing (left center). These rounds are not what I normally shoot, and consider them mediocre at best. I thought they did okay for not expecting much. Actually kind of impressed with the standing group if I’m being honest. This Fatboy is definitely more stable than my Sunwayfoto carbon tripod by a good margin.

Now to get out and do some longer range shooting/ practicing with the centerfires

Looks good. I shot my new Savage for a little while the other day. It seems to be tightening up with the "cheap" hunting ammo. I was really happy with the federal hv 36gr. I will be eating some squirrel and dumplin's this coming season.

Doesn't look like you need much practice. Nice, what rifle/optic?

It’s amazing what a little bit of practice shooting off the tripod with a rimfire can do for you. Keeps the rust off! I put a thermal on a .22 for critter control over the summer months. I also take a tripod with when I go shoot prairie dogs. That will tune a guy up!

"MILDLY" :giggle: :giggle: . Yea, Bob, I practice a lot with my 22. So much so that I put an ARCA on it. Really helped with 'not missing'. After I started doing it, I had a streak of 29 last year, missed 1, then another streak of 21 before another miss.

If that 10/22 is just "mildly" modified, what more would you do to make it "heavily" modified?

I'm taking my tripod on the SD prairie dog shoot again this summer, nothing like a few hundred rounds of practice with several rifles. Thinking I may do more walk about shooting, may start looking for a lightweight folding stool.

Lots can be gained from shooting .22 rimfire but can be very humbling. Shot HP rifle comp for 25 years, and until a friend coerced me into shooting smallbore (somewhere around 20th year). I had always sold the SB discipline short! Had reached what I thought was my HP peak, took up smallbore comp and learned a lot that had been masked by recoil when shooting HP. Probably the most important of which was the importance of follow through, etc.
