I had a big day. Pounded out 9 sets. 12+km of walking. Hit some new ground. I was gifted two sets of doubles. I somehow got lost in myself watching the first pair come in. I can’t explain it. They were at 35 and 50 yards. Gorgeous coyotes. I really wasn’t ready as I should have been. I emptied the shotgun without a hit. Then got on the rifle and made a nice 140 yard running BOOM! CHOP! I was pretty cross with myself not getting a double. My cousin said it’s great and, he may have a point. That I’m still appreciating the animals and can still fall under their spell. That sort of thing. I can see where he is coming from.
I had a bunch of blank stands. Then had two hard chargers coming across a big slough. The wheels fell off the bus. They saw me and wheeled. Dropped my remote in the snow. Rifle sling got caught up on the shotgun. They were 200+ yards away by the time I touched off with the rifle. I cut hair twice in the four rounds I dumped. Just a yard sale of a shit show. I was sick.
Another set, I got 300 yards in and saw three coyotes in the field heading towards the bush that I was planning on calling to. I left and came back two hours later after a blank set with only howls back to let me know they were there. None of the three coyotes but, called in a fox. Took a picture of the sunset and that was my day.
