I had a big day. Pounded out 9 sets. 12+km of walking. Hit some new ground. I was gifted two sets of doubles. I somehow got lost in myself watching the first pair come in. I can’t explain it. They were at 35 and 50 yards. Gorgeous coyotes. I really wasn’t ready as I should have been. I emptied the shotgun without a hit. Then got on the rifle and made a nice 140 yard running BOOM! CHOP! I was pretty cross with myself not getting a double. My cousin said it’s great and, he may have a point. That I’m still appreciating the animals and can still fall under their spell. That sort of thing. I can see where he is coming from.

I had a bunch of blank stands. Then had two hard chargers coming across a big slough. The wheels fell off the bus. They saw me and wheeled. Dropped my remote in the snow. Rifle sling got caught up on the shotgun. They were 200+ yards away by the time I touched off with the rifle. I cut hair twice in the four rounds I dumped. Just a yard sale of a shit show. I was sick.

Another set, I got 300 yards in and saw three coyotes in the field heading towards the bush that I was planning on calling to. I left and came back two hours later after a blank set with only howls back to let me know they were there. None of the three coyotes but, called in a fox. Took a picture of the sunset and that was my day.

Hey, you’re welcome to come hunt with me and turn the above hunt into a lifetime achievement hunt. It may take us a month or so of hunting to see the same number of coyotes you saw in a day, but you’ll truly appreciate the above hunt, lol!
Lol! I know I’m pretty spoiled. I really do. I hope I didn’t come off as whining. It was still a good day out and about. Sets were good. I just didn’t hold up my end and did some educating. They’ll come again on another day. It’ll just be a bit tougher is all.

LOL better than my day yesterday  I made four stands and the second one only happened because I saw the coyote in the field and stopped at the next farm to set up on it. Called to the bush between us for about 20 minutes for a no show so I grabbed my stuff and headed back to the truck, Just as I jumped in I could see the SOB standing in the field right where I was set up! He was looking over at me with what appeared to be an FY grin. :ROFLMAO:

That’s most definitely what it was doing. Or, that’s what I see when that happens too. Dirty pool. Just a reminder to not forget who and what you are pursuing.

That sunset!! Are you using coyote vocals this time of year up there to get them charging in?
It’s been a mix lately. Grey Fox has been a good producer. They are answering howls like crazy.

I had a pair answer yesterday and close from a long way but, wouldn’t show. I think some of these coyotes that are doing this, next I go for them, I’m getting right in the bush and shotgun them. They’ll respond but, only so far. They are well aware that danger lurks in the open. That’s my assessment anyway.

You may not have like it yesterday but "shit shows" have a tendency to make me giggle after the fact. I was gigglin with the 'strap got tangled up with the shotgun'.

Lou, all your coyotes are so well furred and it seems most are that brown/sable color, so awesome. Shame they're not worth much.

I tend to garner a chuckle after the fact too. I’m mad as a wet hen in the moment but, eventually find the humour in a comedy of errors. If you can’t laugh at yourself…..

We do have some really nice colours and overall, the fur quality has been pretty good. Even the two I shot today; I’d be putting them up, were I keeping fur.
