Accumulating stuff ++UPDATE++

I'm selling my van and have started to clean it out. I found a bottle of scotch I stashed in a cubby and proceeded to store stuff in front of, food and meds with a 2013 expiration date. Six boxes of freezer bags, five cigarette lighters, one box of strike anywhere matches, two match safes so far, five 1# propane bottles(full), 2# of coffee in separate bags, missing yet two can openers. Still have storage compartments I haven't been in for years. I think one has a crawfish trap, a flyrod, and chair and the other tire inflater, tire chains,.snow shovel.,.jumper cables. The other an extension on cord, electric heater, shotshells ammo. Hard to believe all the stuff i I'stashed in it in 17 years. My grand daughter used to call it the magic van, when ever she wanted something Grandpa would go out the.van and find it.for.her.

I've started to really pay attention to the "stuff" I keep. After the passing of my parents and one set of my wife's parents the one thing I learned is no one wants "your stuff". I'm only 64 but tomorrow isn't guaranteed... I don't want to leave a lot of useless "man stuff" for my wife and kids to have to toss.

I see it as having many solutions to many problems LOL

Your one of the reasons it is going down the road. I like your truck.

I can hunt a lot of the country out of my van, never need a motel or restaurant, can sleep in because I'm already where I'm going to hunt or fish, get up in the morning, turn up the heat, make coffee while I'm getting dressed, no tent to take down, the bed is ready to crawl into. Travel everywhere, sleeping in Walmart parking lots, hospitals, fairgrounds, BLM lands, National Grasslands for free. Yes it is going to be missed.

Having to avoid soft sandy washes and deep mud, spending the night stuck in the mud because I'm getting a little older instead of digging and winching until it's out.

Good news I purchased a Nissan Xterra pro4x and am already designing a rear bunk, kitchen,.storage, a roof box to put the furnace, and solar panel in/on and have an off road adventure rig that is self contained just smaller.

I figure I just need a rig to last 10 yrs and 100,000 miles. I spent 17 years in this van, this was the second van.

Know where you're coming from Erich. Amazing how much stuff you can accumulate in a hunting rig. Didn't sleep in my truck, but had everything I might need to pick up game, fix stuff and get out of messes in the brush stashed in the bed tool boxes, or under the seats. Couldn't bear to part with it when we moved, but took two weeks to clean out tool boxes, strip winches etc. Now it is one of those city trucks, all dressed up and no place to go.:(

I had a 1994 GMC G20 conversion van with an electric fold down bed. I would load the bird dogs up and hit the road. That bed slept good after a hard day of bird hunting. I am still mad at myself for selling it.

I got into the cubbies under the bed. Two cruiser axes, small crosscut saw and two spare blades, jumper cables, emergency snow shovel, a pair of snowshoes, two sets of ski poles a single trekking poles, three blind chairs, a winter snow blind throw and the crawfish trap.

Know the feeling, Erich, I had tool boxes built bed length and height on both sides of the bed of my truck. Couldn't believe all the treasures I found in them and under the seats when I cleaned out all the hunting gear from the truck.

Haha, my wife did a Spring cleaning under our bed (in our bedroom) and found 5 cases of 12ga dove shells. 1 case of 12ga duck shells. 1 case of 20ga duck shells. 6 boxes of .223. 8 boxes of .243. 3 boxes of 500ct .22’s. 7-8 boxes of .308’s.
What’s bad is I’ve been buying shells/bullets and filling up the safe, lol. Needless to say, I should be good for shooting for a while.

In my defense, if there is one going against the wife, but I had them in another room and as I’d go looking for ammo when the seasons would roll around I couldn’t find it…so I’d by more. Come to find out, she didn’t want it cluttering the other room so the empty space under our King size bed was the perfect spot to be out of sight. Well out of sight is out of mind for me, so I kept buying more and she kept shoving it under the bed. It wasn’t until she ran out of space that she asked what country I planned to invade with all the ammo I had. Sorta “both” of our fault. At least I’m partially blaming her!!
