Accuracy? T/C Encore vs. bolt gun

I shoot a T/C ProHunter in 270. It has a 28" barrel. It shoots good to 300 yds. My question - are bolt guns more accurate because of the way the bolt captures and holds the case?
I love the ability of changing barrels to other calibers. Thanx

I think in the shooting competition world, you would be a fool to show up with an Encore and excpect to place. However, for hunting (and to include small varmints), with a little tweaking, Encores will bget it done.

The bolt (a good bolt) has a free floated barrel- soemthing an Encore is never going to have. There is also more consistency with lock up in a bolt than with a Break action.

That being said, you cna get alot aftermarket stuff for Encores that will make them shoot rather well. I had an Encore with a pencil weight 22-250 barrel that shot very well. I also hd a 7mm-08 MGM barrel that was outstanding. I really reget getting rid of that Encore.

I think its kind of a loaded questions in that it depends on each specific rifle. I have had and have encores that shoot extremely well and some that didnt (although they have all shot more than adequate for any hunting) and I have had bolt guns with the same outcomes. So it really depends.

I would say for a hunting application both are more than adequate for the most part so it doesnt really matter which prints smaller groups at the range. Now if you want to print tiny groups at the range, that is a different story......maybe

I'm not looking for pin-point accuracy. I use 9" paper plates with a peal n stick red dot for the center. I figure if I can hit the plate at whatever range it's set up, that' a dead deer.

Go to 6mmBR.com, then go to Guns of the Week, scroll down till you come to an Encore that was barreled and chambered by Mike Belms. Its as accurate as any bolt rifle. It may very well be a "One in a Million" rifle, but it does shoot. While not a T/C guy any more, I've had a few Encores that were very accurate and some that were min. of school bus.

For what they cost [Encores] I would stay with a bolt gun. The Encore actions are like most break actions in that they are "springy". If you reload this will cause some challenges, even more so if you load up around max. For a daily "plinker" they are ok, but at their price tag I would opt for a bolt gun. My last one was a Pro Hunter with a MGM after market barrel, I traded it for a Remington 700 and have not looked back.

As mentioned, Mike Bellm can set you up, but after you are done paying for all the "up grades" you could of had one sweet bolt gun. JMO2

Here is a link to mike's site. If you are going to run a T/C this web page is worth looking around. He has posted a life time of knowledge about the platform. Mike is also a great guy to talk to, and will answer any questions you may have through E-mail. Good luck.

I agree with psychodog, and Smokeless. I have an Encore and it shoots accuraately now that it's issues have been dealt with. I have had much better with the pre G2 Contenders. I have not tried a G2, yet. If I were deciding between a Encore and a bolt rifle I would take the bolt rifle. If I had known what I was going to have to go through to get that Encore to meet my accuracy standards it would not be in my safe now. In all fairness I may have gotten a 1 out of a 100 dud.
