ACOG or Eotech with 3x or 4x Magnifier?

I am building another predator gun right now and decided on two scope options. I either wanna put an ACOG on it or an Eotech with a flip to side magnifier. Anyone have a theory why one would perform better than the other? I am interested in weight. I want it to be a lighter predator rifle. I like both reticles in both options. My shots range from 5 feet out to 300 yards. I need some unbiassed advice please. Thanks in advance!

5 feet? That's impressive. There is no scope that will perfectly fill that void. I personally follow the KISS principle which for me eliminates the eotech with magnifier. Too much going on. Either buy the ACOG or buy a 1-4 scope or similiar.

My buddy and I were sittin overlooking a big draw out in front of us with lots of open space in front of us. The wind was breezing out taking our scent out in the draw where we expected a coyote to come in. We hit the call for about thirty seconds and the next thing I know, the biggest coyote I have shot to date came in goin ninety miles an hour from behind us! As I started to turn, he saw me and came skidding to a halt. Since he scared the crap out of me I instinctively no scoped him at about five yards (ok, so I exaggerated on the five feet thing) with a 30-06 and hit him in the neck. I have the whole story on camera but not the shot which I am still bummed about. I need to find that video, huge coyote.

Heh..heh, I've hip shot a few jackrabbits on the run that let me get within 5 feet or so of them before they broke. The guys hunting with me were in awe.

I just acted like I could do it again.

On the EOTech, I'm using one without the magnifier. I guess if you've got money to burn, that magnifier setup might be okay. They sure want plenty for the magnifier, though, and that whole flip-to-side lash up sure looks complex.

I think if I wanted that 1-4X, and the dot/donut reticle, I'd take a hard look at the Millett DMS-1 scope. Or an ACOG, those are nice, for sure.

Out to 150 yards or so, my 1X EOTech is deadly, even without a magnifier.

I played around with the magnifier and it's spring loaded so it flips to side with the trigger pull lever lightning fast. That's why I liked it and it's the reason it's on my list. I like one time magnification but I would use the magnifier more often than not. My leupold I have stays on 4 power as it stands. I guess though I could get the acog and put a reflex sight on it. Any more thoughts?

my magnifier with my eotech rotates and then comes off, QD style, i have not seen the one that flips to the side. sounds cool. i have an aimpoint magnifier. lines up perfect with the eotech

May as well just get a Leupold CQT 1-3x. Then you'd have an illuminated reticle if needed as well. I have a like new one I just might sell.(shameless plug).

I cannot speak to the ACOG, but to the EoTech. I started out with a big scope on a AR carbine. The scope always seemed too big and out of balance for what I was wanting to achieve in a carry gun.

I hunt the Texas brush country and seldom have the opportunity for super long shots, so I switched to the EoTech. It restored the balance and lightweight I was looking for in a coyote carbine.

Sometimes I am tempted to try the 3x with the flop-over mount, but I always tell myself that it is a slippery slope. Once I go back to the magnification dark side, I will not be satisfied with 3x and before you know it, I will be right back to some big honking tube again.
