I went and ordered a Trijicon Acog 5.5x50. I've been thinking about it for a time but I've never seen one in action before. Has anyone got an evaluation of them?
Honestly I have not used it for hunting yet.It is on my short AR for around home. All I have used it for is paper and steel. Its strong point, for me is it is fast, both eyes open, easy to move and scan around yourself.
I think it would be good for thick cover, low light fast shots more so than longer range.
I'm afraid I'm not much help for what you are wanting to know.

I'm in the military and use an ACOG all the time, IMO they are way over priced and would spend my money on something else. Don't get me wrong, they are a good optic but wouldn't buy one for hunting.
The only trouble with the Trijicon products is eye relief. I enjoy 3 Trijicon scopes and song remains the same. Glass is excellent when you place your eye right. The eye relief from low to high power is rather dramatic.
The fixed power scopes are great! They also suffer from a small "eye box". By necessity, the trade-off for a wide field of view is a small eye box. The field of view of Trijicon scopes is terrific.
Opinions vary, I think they are great scopes. Simply know what makes them great and what are the trade-offs.
Thanks for the replys, I should have got out and shot it today but got distracted. Gotta pick gooseberry's and currants tomorrow. As soon as I get a chance I'll give you my take on it, at least from a bench rest trial.

Make sure to post pictures when you get it.
Here's the pic's. The new Trijicon Acog 5.5 x 50 on my Les Baer .223 varmiter. The target is 5 shot group after I got it sighted in at 50 yds. Didn't get a chance to shoot any farther, all of the roads into other area's were gated off. I'll find another spot when I get the time to look around some or if it rains they may open some of the other roads.
My coyote rig is bushmaster v-match 16" fluted barrel with TA31F. Everyone whines about the eye relief on TA31 vs TA11. I don't mind. I shoot nose to charging handle anyway. Clarity of glass is superb, bdc works pretty well (I've only shot with it to 400 yards). This gun/scope setup works very well for me. It's also nice having a lit reticle when hunting at night.

I think I'm really going to like it. I was wondering about the accuracy of the ACOG but now I've found it to be a very accurate scope. I didn't notice anything about the eye relief on the 5.5x50 that bothered me. Can't wait to get a coyote coming in
