Added a Savage 219 25-20 win to my Collection

I couldn't help myself and bought another Savage 219. Last fall I bought a Savage 219 in .22 Hornet. It had an engraved receiver and I couldn't pass it up. Bought it for under $400.00. Then in December after reading more about the 219's I decided to get a 30-30 win barrel for it. I eventually found one on-line with forearm wood for $140.00. I had to fit the barrel to the receiver for complete lock up. I drilled and tapped both barrels and fitted them with bases and scopes.

The 219's were produce in four calibers: .22 Hornet, 25-20, 32-20 and 30-30. Recently I noticed several 219's for sale in .25-20, a rare caliber which got me to thinking. They were all selling for $800 and up, pretty pricey. I started searching for one in .25-20. I found a third one for sale at GUNS.com. They were also asking $800.00. I didn't need it, but a third one in .25-20 would be nice. I cast, reload and shoot a lot of .25-20 so this would fit in. I offered $700.00 for it from GUNS.com. They accepted and I'll have the gun next week.

Hey, that’s great. I have had a hankering for a 25-20 since boyhood, but never have owned one. I have regretted not getting the Marlin lever action years ago when it was being produced. I imagine they are very pricey now. They also made one in 32-20.

I have three Marlin 27s pumps in .25-20. I built two from parts; one I purchased off GB for $49.00. it was just the barrel and left receiver plate. Bought parts, had the barrel relined, shortened to 20" and rust blued it. It was so rusted I use a fine mill file down the barrel flats to remove the rust and pits. Made butt stock and put a repaired forearm on it.

Second was purchased in an on-line auction for just over $100.00. Their description was ruff condition. It had missing parts which caused the bolt to lock up. I had those parts and it works fine. The barrel is also relined.

The third is an engraved 27s, blueing and wood in excellent condition. I have to take pictures of that one.

The USDA wolfers in Mn use 25-20's on the job. Yes, here in Mn we can't hunt or trap wolf. But we can pay government employees to kill them, not sure why they use the 25-20. Was a popular poaching round a long, long time ago. They do keep a lot of ammo on hand, guessing there is a political reason. I know our Democrat senators fought to keep them in the budget(for the farmers and ranchers,wink-wink).

That is pretty neat. I like the 219 and gave my niece one in 22H for her first predator hunting rifle.

The 25 caliber is one of my favorites, I shoot a 25-205 now and have owned a couple each of 250-3000 and 257 Roberts over the years.

It is the only smallbore that you can get inexpensive bulk cast bullets for and I buy them 500 at a time and load them for small game loads.

Do to the scarcity of bolt actions repeater to handle the 25-20 only the Sako L-46(very expensive) and the Win 43 I have serious thoughts of a 25 K-Hornet on a CZ 527 or equivalent action. I even have a dummy 25 Hornet round sitting on a shelf here somewhere.

I have three different molds for 25-20 bullets and 1200 75 grain flat nose jacketed bullets. I like the lyman 65 grain mold. It cast bullet weighing about 69 grains with my lead mix.
