adding picattiny rail to a weaver mount

I have an old 22 bolt gun with a weaver mount that the day scope is mounted to. I was hoping to figure out a way to attach a picatinny rail to the top of the weaver mount so I could then mount my Armasight night vision scope to it for short range work.
Do any of you know how to do this or do I need to buy a different firearm that will accept a picatinny rail?

thanks!

One option would be to remove the weaver bases, get a blank picatinny rail and have it fit to your rifle. I know flat bottom picatinny blanks are available; gunsmith might have to mill bottom of the blank to fit contour of your receiver? Read complete FAQ @ link below.

Now, what does this mean to you? Boiled down, it means that accessories designed for a Weaver system will, in most cases, fit on a “Picatinny” system. The reverse, however, is probably not the case. Due to the larger recoil groove, “Picatinny” accessories will not fit a Weaver system. There are, of course, exceptions to every rule, but for a good rule-of-thumb, “Picatinny” won’t fit Weaver, but Weaver will fit “Picatinny”.

I shot a Smith&Wesson AR22 a few weeks ago. It belonged to a Member of the gun club. Had a 2x7 Leupold scope. Even with bulk ammo, it was pretty accurate at 50yds.

Just to gather a bit more info, what do you consider short range and what are you shooting at night with a 22 rim fire ?

Where are you at in IL ?

Are you meaning the old tip off system that 22s had? Just the two grooves cut into the top of the receiver? I think there is an adapter at midwayusa.

huntschool,
I'm up by the Quad Cities. By short range I'm taking 50 yds or less for coyote & raccoon.
This is a old bolt action 22 & it has the scope attached on what I think is a weaver mount, not direct to grooves on the receiver, if that makes sense.

I'm with Huntschool, I'd either find a factory aftermarket option to replace the Weaver bases, or I'd have one made (or make it myself). Picatinny blanks are cheap, and any smith with an end mill, or any machinist for that matter, can form it for you. It'll be cheaper than buying a new rifle, and more practical than buying new and leaving you stuck with an old relic you no longer use, despite it being still of good use.

PhotoBucket has blocked all sharing of photos, but you can get individual adaptors that are about one inch long that attach to your 11mm rail on the older .22s....I used a pair of them to allow the use of a red dot holo sight on my .22lr pistol...Google "11mm optic mounts" and I think you will find several in different sizes

Here are some on Amazon...https://www.amazon.com/11mm-scope-mount-Sports-Outdoors/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A3375251%2Ck%3A11mm%20scope%20mount

I'll look into that, OldTurtle. Thanks.
So is Photobucket not useable on PredatorMasters any more?
Would I be able to email one of you gentlemen a picture of my rifle & the mount currently on it? A picture is worth a thousand words as they say...

Okay, got a picatinny rail on my Savage 12 vlp. What mounts are recommended to attach my Bushnell Elite 4200 to the rail? I want to alternate between the Bushnell in the day & Trail scope at night.
