Yes.. they look different. I have one of the old and one of the new on my bench now... the new one has a complex safety with levers and cams on the outside, and on the left side there is an inspection hole for setting the over travel screw. But it is the same housing and is a drop in replacement.
The safety has a bunch of levers on it now, and they are on the outside (right side) so it looks more different than it really is. When dropping it into an old, close fitting stock, it might be necessary to clear a bit of the stock away on the right side to clear the levers of the safety.
