ADL, BDL, CDL, What's the difference ???

I'm a Ruger nut (OK...I've got my faults /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) and these Remington designations have got me stumped. So I'm turning to my friends here to help! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

What's the difference in these models? Is it the stocks, or what? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

The reason I need to know is that I have bought a M700 SPS in .204, and I am going to try to re-stock it. Someone (BCB I think) said that it was the ADL with a hinged floorplate. Anyway, this synthetic stock has got to go.

I guess, other than the knowledge between the models for future reference, what I REALLY need to know is which model stocks will fit this rifle? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Thanks guys! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

EDIT....OK, did some more research, and here's what I found....PLEASE correct me if this info is not correct:

ADL has no floorplate. Loads/unloads from the top only.

BLD has a floorplate.

CDL has a floorplate.

I know there are some finish differences, but that doesn't concern me at this time. So based on the info above, can I just find a BDL or CDL stock and drop my action into it?

That is correct, either the CDL or the BDL type stocks will work. The CDL has a matte finish with no white line spacers, the BDL is glossy and uses the wl spacers. There are alot of nice stocks out there for the 700. I have McMillans on mine but they are not worth what they cost. I had a Bell and Carlson on one that was nice but sold it. Take a look at Boyd's if you like wood, they have very nice stuff for the price. Just be sure and specify that you have a short action.

Thanks for the confirmation. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I'm not looking for a nice stock, but rather a WOOD used stock. This is my son's rifle, and his 13-yr-old frame requires a really short LOP, so I am going to have to cut one off for him. Ain't gonna do that to a nice stock. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hidalgo;

I probably didn't say it well, but the SPS (which has a drop floorplate) replaced the ADL (which does not have a drop floor plate). The ADL is no longer made even though there are still some in the system and new on shelves in some places.

The SPS has the drop florplate like the BDL/CDL models and if you can find a stock for a BDL/CDL, the SPS will drop right in. Its basically the same rifle with just a different type of finish.

For an option, try HS Precision....they make a very nice aftermarket stock. Order the BDL version in the short action length for the 204 Ruger if you decide to get one... It will come with new stock screws that might be of a slightly different length than the ones with your rifle.

BCB, you DID say it well.....I just wanted a little more clarification. (I don't trust my interpretations sometimes) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

CatShooter....YES, it does have a plastic trigger guard. I bet I'm going to have to replace it, huh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Hidalgo:

I wouldn't worry too much about the plastic trigger guard on the rifle uness you just want a metal one for whatever reason.

A few years back I bought an ADL rifle for the action only for a custom rifle. There was a lot of internet chatter about plastic gun parts, so I took the ADL trigger guard that I had no use for and set it on a work bench and hit it three different times with a carpenter's hammer on the bow of the guard. Each time it bounced about two feet into the air and landed back on the bench.

There were slight marks where the hammer hit it each time, but it was not brokem or damaged in any way. I don't think I'd try that with an aluminum one off a BDL as I bet one whack would severly bend or break the trigger guard bow. On the other hand, maybe one more whack on the plastic one and it might have broken also. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I don't know if the SPS trigger guard is made of the same stuff the ADL one was made of, but if it is, its not gonna' break easily.

Thanks for the "stress test" results. I'll leave the original one on there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I would look on Ebay {Remington 700 stock} or at the big gun shows in your area . I bought a really nice Classic stock for mine at a gun show, I paid around $100 for mine .
