ADL vs. BDL

I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between an ADL and a BDL as far as Remington actions are concerned?

None that I'm aware of as far as actions are concered. The ADL has a hinged floorplate, better finish on the wood and a black fore-end tip. I think the bluing is also better. The bolt is also jeweled and ofcourse, you have front and rear sights on the BDL.

Pretty sure the ADL has a blind magazine, so you have to unload it through the action. The BDL is a hinged floorplate, and I think the stock finish is supposedly "better", whatever that means. Also has rosewood grip cap and forend tip, think the ADL doesn't.

The action, trigger, etc are identical.

Bob,
You've got them confused. The BDL has the hindged floor plate, better finish and black for-end tip. It also has front and rear sights, although most of the used ones you'll find will have them removed.

The ADL also has a screw in the middle of the action designed to hold the front of the trigger guard in place. I hate the darned thing. To tight and you ruin accuracy, to loose and the trigger guard is loose. If I had one I'd glue a nut in place in the stock and shorten the screw. Then you can tighten it all you want and not worry about it. By the way the BDL has a tapped hole where this screw would go in a ADL.

An interesting side note is that on average, the ADL is slightly more accurate. This because the stock is stiffer without the magazine hole cut all the way through.

Over the years, I have converted BDLs to ADLs for those looking for better accuracy and converted ADLs to BDLs for those who could not live without a hinged floor plate.

Hello Jack,

You certainly fooled me on that one. I have three BDL's, all of which are quite accurate. I do not own an ADL. I know the differences between the two rifles but had not given any thought to the magazine cutout. I'm primarily a range shooter and load everything single shot from the top. It's amazing how you can become blind to the obvious. Best wishes.

Jack - I smell a financial oppertunity here for fellas like you. I find the arguement to be compelling that the open mag. well weakens the stock, but I also like the hinged floor plate. You need to design a mag. well stiffener. Kind of a stiff metal ring of either round stock or flat. All you need to do is route out a groove inside the well, place the stiffener in this groove and glue it in place with bedding compound. Simple, effective, high tech. Possibly big business.
