Advice for Oregon Coyote hunt!

Greetings:

Looking to do some Coyote hunting (first time) in Oregon in the next few weeks and have a few questions.

I am reloading for my Weatherby SVM 22-250 and want to use Nosler ballistic tip - I have a lot of Nosler ballistic tip 50 grain projectiles available - will this be enough do the job?

What should I do with the Coyote if I score a hit? - saw a Primos calling video recently and after this hunter scored a hit it looked like he took the tail and left the rest of the Coyote! - what do you do if anything?

Anyhow like I said this is my first Coyote hunt and all I know is what I have read and watched - I am in Beaverton Oregon and have a few ideas of where I think may produce results within 25 or so miles of where I live - could really use any advice to assist me or a partner would be even better.

voci - Those 50 gr. BT's will do just fine. I launch 50gr. Sierra BK's (another type of BT bullet) out of my .223 at about 3250 fps with little to no damage. Don't launch 'em full bore out of that 250 and you'll be fine.

Now, if you are lucky enough to successfully call and harvest a predator, do like I do. SMILE alot, jump up and down, pump your fist like Tiger Woods, high five your calling partner and take some photos - did I leave anything out?

What you do with your dog is up to you. I have quite a few tails hanging in the garage, but this year I have skined just about all the ones that weren't too shot up. (my buddies hunt with .243's) I just have not mastered the hide processing part yet.

Anywho, good luck!!

I live in the Canby area (maybe we could hook up). I've only gone after 'yotes in Central Oregon and have had good success. My favorite bullets are the Hornady V-Max but Ballistic Tips work fine. My load is 35.1 gr of IMR 4064 with a 50 gr V-Max. It averages 3300 fps out of my 700 ADL. Where abouts near Beaverton are you headed?

Greetings:

Just went on a recon mission today to scout out some terrain and get some GPS coordinates.

Was about 35 miles from "Beaverton" past "Timber" on route 26 when the weather crapped out and it started to get dark.

Anyhow I am going on another recon mission in the A.M to work my way out to my ultimate destination "Coyote Corner".

Area looks good so far from what I saw today, it's about 2500ft in elevation looking across and down on clear cuts.

Have a Weatherby Mark V Super Varmintmaster in 22-250 with a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x40mm so I should have no problem reaching out!

Am going to spend some time practicing my calling tommorow or at least trying! and see what happens.

Anyhow looking to hunt next weekend if interested! - send me an email!

They will work fine.

You have several options. If you are going to harvest the fur, take a little care when getting the animal back you your vehicle. Avoid dragging it. A length of rope can be helpful to carry the coyote. Basically try not to cause unnecessary damage to the fur. Some go as far as to plug the bullet hole with tissue. I don't. Or you can skin it in the field if you like. Warm hides are easier to get off for sure. If having a rug or mount done, I would make arrangements ahead of time with your taxidermist to find out what he would like you to do. Some prefer their customers let them do the skinning. If you are selling the fur, you can tube skin it, flesh/stretch. Some buyers buy in the round. Skulls, tails, tanned fur are marketable on e-Bay and other places. Or you can feed those lower creatures with your offering. Your decision.
