Advice: New .45-70, Encore Rifle or Marlin 1895

I am very sick and tired of trying to figure out where my NEF in .45-70 is going to shoot, sometimes two inch groups of 3 to 4 rounds and then, Wham, 6" low and 3" right.

Looking/Thinking Encore or Marlin 1895 in the 22" blue. Both are quality, my T/C G2 is so well made I am leaning to the Encore, also of course, more barreling options. But, the Marlin is CLASSIC! What say you, accuracy, reliblilty, other?
 
I just bought a encore kathadu 45-70 18" ported barrel this is a great little gun recoil is noy bad at all and i shoot hot loads kicks less then my ruger #1 and i'm sure it will handle hotter loads then the marlin.

I had an 18" 45/70 barrel for the encore and I also have a Stainless Guide gun. For hunting purposes, where the game can hunt you back, I'll take the marlin. The encore shot really good too though. Even hot 45/70 ammo doesn't kick all that bad.
 
Ditto what Thebear78 said. My sole use for the 45-70 is black bear. My favorite 45-70 is my Win1886. It depends on what you use the rifle for. The Marlin is a very user friendly, accurate hunting rifle. A lot of guys like the short, ported guide guns. I prefer the full length, unported barrels. Rather let my shoulder absorb the recoil than my ear drums. Go with the Marlin.
 
Go with the Marlin. I have several, went to the .450 just to get the "hot" stuff off the shelf by Hornady. A great rifle for brush - will kill anything that walks on this earth and goes through 24 in pine log with ease. Wear ear plugs AND muffs. Healthy recoil but fun. Use the scout mount to save scope cuts. Love that scout mount on the lever guns.
 
Haven't you heard about the new Marlin " buy a 444, 45-70 or 450 and get a free scope cut" offer? C'mon, everybody's doin it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I have both. I bought the Marlin about five years ago. It had the scope cut offer back then too. I use the Encore more actually the Marlin hasn't left the safe in quite awhile.

Not me, I have a Ghost Ring aperture sight set-up on mine.
 
It would depend on where you prefer a single shot or repeater. They both are good rifles, myself i would take the Encore.
 
I have 2 of the Encores, strictly for the versatility of swapping barrels... got the 18" Kahtadin and a 24" rifle barrel in 45-70... if you can live with a single shot this is the way to go... other wise get the 1895 in the long barrel... no need to blow out your ear drums with the short ported barrels...
 
Thanks for the help guys, the NEF is going on the block tomorrow and the Marlin 1895 in 22" barrel is going on order.
