affordable rimfire scope?

I've just purchased a model 93 22 mag that I will be using for night hunting and just an all-around rifle to have with me the only other rimfire scope I have is a sweet .17 and it works great despite the horror story's I've heard of them not holding a zero. Im not sure what my budget is for the scope but I am cheap your opinions and experience is much appreciated thanks Bomberhat
 
I have a Simmons "8 Point" 4-12 on a 17hmr I have and wanted this rifle to be a bare necessities budget rifle.
I've heard plenty of horror stories about Simmons scopes and others as well, but figured what the heck, and gave it a try.
Good, tight scope, glass is good. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality.

Can be had for under $100.

FWIW, one of the board of directors of our private shooting range showed up one day with a BSA Catseye scope on a 22 mag bolt rifle he'd newly bought for a truck rifle whenever on his country property. Gent normally has Zeiss scopes on his rifles, occassionally see a Swavorski. I gave him a good ribbing about having a BSA scope on a rifle and then chuckled revealing to him I had a fair number of BSA scopes and they had been pretty good for me. Couple of weeks later we cross paths at range again and I mentioned seeing his BSA Catseye on sale for maybe $25 less in a local store. His response was to ask me where it was, saying that "cheap--- scope is pretty good, think I'll get a second one." Anyway some of the Catseye models have a side focus and sell for under $100.

As for me, I'd might consider another BSA model, one called the Majestic DX Hunter. Graf and Sons has the Majestics on sale. Can buy a 4-16x44 side focus for less than $90 when others sell it for around $130. Own several of the Majestics, decent glass and adjustments in them. Bought a Marlin 22 XT a month or so ago and put one of my Majestic 6-24x44 on it. Scope doesn't look too big for the Marlin. By the way, normally have my Majestics on centerfire rifles.
 
I've bought many old leupolds for rimfires, m4 and such can be had nice for 75 to 100 bucks, also the old jap tascos they're
good scopes can be had for 30 to 50 bucks, i like the burris rimfire, however you say you like the bsa i know the sweet 17

is a fair scope, i don't think they make a sweet 22mag, but i think you could use a sweet 17 and just sight in 1 inch high
at 100, it may be close enough to keep you on out to 175yds
???? i don't know i'm just guessing here.....without knowing the bal tables i am guessing...anybody else think this is feasable?????
 
notimer, I'm trying to figure out kinda the same thing. If any scope with any BDC that would work for a 22 Mag?

I read on Rimfire Central where some one said a Pentax Game Seeker was pretty good with their BDC reticle. Some one else recomended a Nikko Sterling Nighteater, but I'm not sure.

I know it wouldn't be the same, depending on the weight of the bullets you are using. There would be quite a difference between 30gr and 50gr when it comes to drop.

I am a leupold guy but those may be out of your price range. Go to ebay and look at the M8 fixed power leupold scopes.

For a variable Nikon Prostaff 3-9 is a good scope, used for around $115 or less.

The cheapest I go is the old weavers. I have a Weaver V9 3-9 and I think I paid $40 shipped for it and I love the scope. Holds zero well (and I am picky) I would definately buy it again.

I would rather go used older scope than a cheaper new scope for the same money any day. YMMV
