Hey, i'm new to this forum, but i have a question about my remington 870 sps slug gun. i love everything about the gun except for its trigger. are there any aftermarket triggers for these things?

as far as i know all ya gotta do is take it to a gun smith and he will adjust it as low as 3 pounds i believe...they will take it low enough but keep it safe as well and i think its only like $50.

I had mine done to at a crisp 44 oz by a guy named Timney (NOT the trigger company). All he had to have was the trigger assembly, which removes quickly by knocking out a couple drift pins. Good job, and he got it back in just a few days. About $55, I think. If interested, I could probably find info to contact him.

Make a mediocre coyote shotgun into a sweet one!

yea critr gitr, that'd be great if you could get me some info. Thanks alot. Also, i read somewhere about a hastings trigger assembly for the 870s. does anybody know anything about those?

I took my 870 apart some time back to try and figure out how to do a trigger job. In the end I lightly polished all engagement points, that made it cleaner and smoother but not much lighter. So I took a guess. I cut one coil off the hammer spring. Trigger pull went from 8 1/2lbs to 4lbs, not awesome but a big improvement. I'm no expert gunsmith, but I'm not to bad with rifle triggers. This is the only shotgun trigger I've messed with, so be careful with this info. It worked for me. I've not had any problems with it to date, about 200 rounds.

A good freind and (a senior) competitive shotgun shooter told me that he does his own Remington triggers like the one on the 870.

He told me that he did his mod. 1100 and that the rifles and shotguns of this style all use the same spring kit. I don't know where he gets this kit, but I would check w/ Brownells?

Thanks Hoosierdaddy for Allen Timneys address. That article makes for fine reading and a perfect place to spend $55. A really good trigger man is hard to find.....
